According to the iPhoto (iOS) Help File > View & Organize Photos > Delete Photos from iPhoto (available by tapping the "?" icon at the top and then tapping the "Get more help" Arrow):

iPhoto.app use photos and video clips stored on your device and makes the available to the Photos.app. (Note the different apps - iPhoto is a realtively new add-on app from Apple, Photos is an app that comes with your device as part of the iOS) If you delete a Photo from the Photos.app - the photo is deleted from iPhoto.app (unless it has been edited, tagged or used in a journal)

         - you can hide a photo so that it still remains in the Photo.app but doesn't appear in iPhoto.app.

How photos are deleted depends on how the photos were added to your device:

    • Photos and video added via the device camera are deleted in the Photos.app > Camera Roll

    • Photos added from iPhoto via iTunes synch requires you to deselect the photos  and then re-apply the synch

    • Photos in a "Beamed" album or the Photo Box album - tap a photo in the Beamed Album or Box then tap the gear icon and tap delete (you may have to tap "Edit" first to see the gear.

    Good Luck.

Was hoping for something other than a repeat of the help file.  It was decidedly unhelpful as I have pictures in iPhoto that were taken on my iPad which I can not delete.

Why is this so hard to do?  I thought this piece of software was designed by Apple?  Is it so hard to put in a delete option?

But bwfromspring hill just told you how to delete those: Not from iPhoto, but by switching from iPhoto to the "Photos App" - there select the Camera Roll and delete the images. They will vanish from iPhoto as well.

One would think.  Alas, this didn't happen.  I had to find the exact place in iPhoto in which to delete the pic as well.

But only, if you imported from the Camera roll to a new iPhoto album or saved an edited version to iPhoto, i hope. Or are you saying, you could not delete images from the camera roll, that you did not import to iPhoto?

Not certain what my order of operations was to be honest.  I had a picture saved from the interwebs into Photos that I cropped in iPhoto to email elsewhere.  I deleted it from Photos and it remained in iPhoto and was devilishly hard to figure out where to delete it.

I just dont believe it should have the ability to become so fracked up.

That is really an unnecessary complication, and will hopefully be changed in future versions.

I don't disagree, but the only way Apple will hear your wishes is to give them feedback:
