Q: Retina MBP - visual glitches after returning from sleep

On the new Retina MBP (using the highest res setting), I'm noticing that there are significant visual glitches (ghosting, persistent blocks, lack of redraw, etc...) upon returning from sleep.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Mountain Lion has fixed my issues too, although have had to do a forced shut down once following a resume from sleep glitch.  Otherwise its been flawless.

Same here. Overall, not once did I have the display problem since upgrading to ML on launch day.

On several occasions, I had to wait a fairly long time to wake from sleep, but it did eventually wake. And I don't think it's related in any way to the prior issue.

I would declare this problem SOLVED by Mountain Lion.

I've installed ML and the firmware update and I still see the issue in VMWare. It could just be VMWare and it's not nearly as severe as it was before, but it's still there.

My problem has been display craziness in external LED cinema display post-waking. The update did not fix this.

Diagnostically speaking, I've found that if I wake the machine to at least display the login screen before plugging in the external display or thunderbolt drive they don't have issues. But if the machine awakens with them attached it's almost certain I will need to restart to fully clear the problem.

If the display is daisy chained through the thunderbolt hub, it's even worse with glitches and redraw errors and will black out every few seconds like a very slow strobe light until a restart.

Hi guys, my Macbook pro retina has been suffering from screen tearing, flickering, disappearing text for a week. Clean reinstall of mountain lion could not solve it. Has anyone of you encountered similar problems? Any permanent solutions for it? I have attached a picture of the screen tearing of my mac.

I've got it too - after applying the 10.8.1 patch to Mountain Lion it is still there. Seems clear it does not have anything to do with an external display - it just involves some confusion caused by nvidia/intel dynamic switching. Can be cleared for a while by changing 'effective' screen size for the retina display, then locking your graphics into one mode or the other using the gfx utility. But then you sleep your machine, and often, it's back.

Sure would be nice to have Apple officially recognize it as an issue, and confirm it is a software issue that will be fixed in a future patch.

When i open Launchpad and folder "Ostatné" all is ok, but when i open folder "Adobe", at top of the screen are some artifacts. It looks like problem with software http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-NnD-0LKUs. Similar problem is also in Safari. Disabling automatic graphics switching "solved" this issue.

Waiting for software fix. Maybe OS X 10.8.2?

I don't really know how these forums are supposed to work, but I doubt it is just for Apple users to commiserate with each other. Aren't there any Apple employees reading this thread who can comment? Can they please confirm this is a known issue which is indeed a software issue that we can hope to have fixed in 10.8.2 or .3?

I have had this glitching since I got my laptop about a month ago.  Still waiting on a solution.

Just loaded 10.8.2 - no mention of this issue in the release notice, but we'll see if this helps.

No it doesn't - problem is still there in 10.8.2. Not surprising as Apple hasn't even contacted anyone on this thread or the other similar threads. A shame as it rather ruins the experience of using their marquee laptop

Myself and several other people have been contacted by Apple from this thread. You will  need to be patient.

That said, I haven't had any screen tearing / lack of refresh issues when returning from sleep for quite a while now. I belive the following link to a SMC Update is what actually fixed my issues, but yours may be different.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1559

Can you be more specific about the issue you are experiencing? Some people seem to have issues with external displays now, but not the laptop display, etc.

The main issue I experience is in Safari - with generally rectangular areas not being redrawn when the screen changes. For example if I am running a web-based application that pops up a dialog box, as it closes perhaps some of the area under it will not be re-written. Or I will scroll Safari up, and the left and right sides lose alignment. Sometimes it is filled in after a few seconds, all by itself. Usually I can get it re-drawn by waggling my cursor around in the area that is out of date. This pretty much always happens when I am on the Intel 4000 onboard video.

I have two Retina MacBook Pro 15's and they both do it. Did it from the start, and still do it on 10.8.2.

SMC update is no use to me - says the software is not supported on my system. I presume I must have installed it a while ago, or it came pre-installed.

I rather feel I have been patient. Had one system for a month. I don't need an instant cure - but some info from Apple about where they are in the process, or if there even is any recognition that there is an issue, would be nice. I'm very disappointed that 10.8.2 did not address this issue.
