Getting page not found on iPad for WiFi verification

So I just upgraded the iPad to IOS6. I connect to my wifi network, it connects, pulls up the Apple page (the one that usually pops and disappears, I guess it's checking something on that page to verify network connection). Instead of going away, it's displaying Apple's 'Page Not Found' and on the top bar it says 'www.apple.com' and 'Log in'. I have no log in for my router, I'm clearly online as I can browse all of Apple's website, yet the ONLY option I have is click 'cancel'. I used to remember you can tell it not to do a network check, I can't even turn that off.

Any one else seeing this?

So Apple devices 'check in' with an apple.com website every time you connect to Wifi even your own private one??

I take it they are logging all the IPs that hit the site and using the data to determine geographic location and usage.

Anyone have any privacy concerns here?

Found the fix! Super easy. In the wireless network settings all I had to do was make sure Auto-Join was set to ON for the wifi network in the wireless network's settings (click on arrow on right of SSID to get there).

I am not sure why this setting changed. I assume it is a bug. Maybe works as designed for security?

I was having this exact same a few minutes ago. I tried rebooting my phone and that didn't work. I ended up rebooting my router, after about the 3rd reboot of the router I stopped getting the error. This was happening on my iPhone 4 on iOS 6.0 as well as my fiance's iPod 4th gen on iOS 5.1.1.

I think I figured it out. Thank goodness one of my apps needed updating....

Using a wifi connection that'll work for you (ie, I used my cell phone as a wifi hotspot), go into the App Store. Most likely, if you haven't gone there yet, the App Store will give you a pop-up asking you about installing four Apple apps (Podcasts, Find iPhone, iTunes U, Find Friends). I think this pop-up is causing the problem...iOS really wants to know if we'll download these apps or not for some reason.

I don't think it's necessary to download the four apps to fix the problem. (I downloaded them, but I decided to just keep "Find My iPhone" in the end.) I have a 4G iPad, and I put it into airplane mode, turned the wifi on and connected to the wifi hotspot that my iPad didn't like. I'm online, and my connection is fine now.

I had the same problem. For the moment I have found the following solution.

Went to:

Settings->General->Cellular

Turned off both "Cellular Data" and "Enable 3G".

At this point I could sucesufully connect to my wifi.

I then turned on again both "Cellular Data" and "Enable 3G".

For the moment it seems working.
