Adobe InDesign CS6 appears to be crashing with the simplest of tasks many for many of us with new MacBook Pros. Hope Apple/Adobe work swiftly to get this fixed! These machine and this software is far too expensive for this kind of kink. Any Apple folks working on this?

This has been a noted issue in the Adobe forums. I have done some searching for you and found a few suggestions.

1 - Deleting pages: select menu Layout -> Pages -> Delete Pages

enter the page you want to delete and press Delete using ALT+click.

This works also with the small trashcan icon on layout pane. Press it with ALT+click. No dialog box appears, no crash.

2 - Creating Package: deselect Include Font and confirm. No dialog box appears, no crash.

REMOVE checkmark in Remove the Search for Missing Links in This Folder.

    Update image one by one

Also, do you have any 3rd party plugins installed? Have you tried disabling them?

Appreciate your effort, Bonefant. I have seen those workarounds and am currently using them. The main issue is exporting to PDF. It crashes in several different settings, so I have to create .idml files, open them in a previous version of CS and create PDFs from there. With these little workarounds I can get my work done, it just puts a big wrench in the gears when I create many many PDFs during a typical workday.

Just trying to make as many Apple and Adobe employees aware of this so a permanant solution can be produced.

I had a few issues with exporting to PDF as well (ID CS6, Retina MacBook Pro). I found that it would crash if there was any kind of warning in the PDF summary dialog, because, like with packaging, it's the warning that makes it crash. If you can fix the warnings in the summary dialog before the final click to export, it should work fine. (For mine, it was fixing the color conversion and font inclusion in the PDF type I was exporting to.) Hope that helps, it's awfully frustrating when new software doesn't work on new hardware!

Having the same issue, really disappointed that $2,000+ computer and $1000+ software has this issue. Adobe telephone support was completely unhelpful. Apple support has said:

"We make a computer and 3rd party software is to work around our product"

Apple does not seem to be responsible for this, it is entirely on Adobe. I have returned my new macbook pro and will be purchasing another one of the same specs hoping that I somehow got a "bad one" if that is even possible.

I want to point out I was previously running a 2008 Macbook aluminum with Lion 10.7.4, 2Ghz core2duo and 4GB of RAM and had absolutely no problems with CS6, it runs flawlessly and has never crashed to date, even on CS5. This seems to be a Ivy Bridge + 10.7.4 specific bug with Adobe InDesign CS6

Correct. From my research, many users are experiencing issues with 10.7.4. If at all possible, the best "work-around" for this issue, as of now, is to not update to 10.7.3. There have been previous update issues with other programs such as VMWare, techtools, etc. I understand your frustration as I have experienced issues with other programs. The best thing to do is to wait it out if at all possible and continue badgering the software developers as it is not Apple's issue.

Do NOT get any MacBook 2012 models if you use Adobe CS4, 5, 5.5 or 6.  All models are crashing on any dialog box popup's, i.e. they are nearly unusable for work, unless you like saving every 30 seconds.  They do restart Indesign very fast after it crashes...  Apple has made no comment on what seems to be an obvious video card driver issue in OS X 10.7.4 on the new 2012 models. There are a number of other video related issues as well, but the show stopper for us is the Indesign incompatibility.  Google "fixed" the Chrome problems by removing the 3D accelerator calls thereby slowing down Chrome on these models.

Just a small addition to this post. You can get a macbook pro 13" or 15" which can be reinstalled with osx 10.7.3 to work with Indesign just fine. As soon as you install the macbook pro update 1.0 (aka special 10.7.4 update) Indesign CS 4 to 6 crashes on alerts.

This is a serious problem, please Apple and Adobe, put your heads together and fix this one way or the other and please do it quick. I'm one of the 'lucky' ones which bought a 13" macbook pro which I downgraded to 10.7.3 (and cannot upgrade to 10.7.4). Air and Retina users do not seem to have that possibility.

A whole professional community which depends on you and made you who you are today is anxiously waiting.

Yes, I agree. This is BOTH Apple's and Adobe's issue. I do not have any problems on my older MacBookPro, only the new one just purchased in June 2012. Any warning box that appears will crash InDesign.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro running 10.7.4 and  Adobe Design & Web Premium CS6. The only problems I am experiencing are with InDesign crashing whenever I open an existing document. I can create new documents in InDesign, but cannot open that document after I close it or any others, even those created in CS5 without crashing the program. Adobe is aware of this issue according to their support line.

What bothers me the most is that Adobe is continuing to sell their software knowing there is an issue and offers no alternative to those who use this software to make their living. Their suggestion was for me to unistall 10.7.4 and install 10.7.3 on my new MacBook Pro. This is of course, unacceptable.

Fortunately I still have CS5 on my iMac that is still running 10.7.3. But for those who do not have this option, it is criminal that Adobe hasn't made some kind of concession to accomodate them until the issue is resolved. I understand Apple's perspective that third-party software must work within their framework, but it seems to me that Apple would also want to take a proactive stance to help resolve the issue since so many people, like myself, make a living with their Macs and Adobe software in unison.

Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth!

Yes, me too running a 2011 MBP  OS 10.7.4.  InDesign CS 5.5 and CS 6  freeze when opening a document creeated in a previous version of InDesign.

Apple give us an update that works!

    Adobe fix your expensive products!
