    Hello,

Which version of the PowerBook do you own? If your using Mac OS X 10.2 and bellow, it wont be compatible with the WPA encryption on your wifi router. If your using Mac OS X 10.3 you will need to insure that the airport has been updated.

If you have the 400mHz version, it is not equipped to connect to a WPA encrypt but it has limited options. I actually own this version and have sucessfully connectd mine to the internet using ETHERNET. ethernet is a built in internet modem inside your laptop. To connect tot he internet throught ehternet you need an ethernet cable. If you have wifi from AT&T then you will have an ethernet cable included. it is a grey cable that connects kind of like a usb cable to you lap top. The down side of dioung this is that you mus be with in range of the cable to the modem. If you haven anymore questions feel free to ask :)

A PowerBook G4 Titanium model can connect to a WPA network, provided it has mac OS X 10.3.9 or above installed. It may require an update for the airport software. It wont connect to a WPA2 encrypted network

If you click on the apple logo top left, go to 'About This Mac'

Let us know what it says. It should tell you what version of Mac OS X is installed

You may need to get one of these if you don't have an AirPort Extreme card installed.

the airport extreme card will not work on any version of the powerbook G4, it is too old, but you can go to a store like target or Walmart and get a usb wifi adapter this has worked for me on countless occasions. and they are only $20-$40

Sorry, just for future clarification, Airport Extreme cards were not put in any of PowerBook G4 Titanium model, but Airport Extreme card were available in the PowerBook G4 Aluminum models from 2003 to 2006

You could try booting your computer with the Option, Cmd, O (letter o, that is) and F keys all held down while it chimes the boot.  This should boot into Open Firmware, in which it presents you with a command line prompt.  If you can see the prompt then your hardware is probably OK, and it is a software issue.  If you can't see the prompt then your hardware is likely hosed; sometimes people can still use their computer when this happens by connecting an external display before boot, and leaving the lid down.

If it is a software issue then you may need to reinstall the operating system from the restore disk.
