Q: iMessage wont work on my ipod touch!

Anyone else having a problem with iMessage? So far everything else seems ok. I have tried several times to log in and eventually get a error message saying "PLEASE CHECK YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION AND TRY AGAIN LATER". There is no problem with my network connection and I've been online on several websites which appear to be working correctly. I have also checked in settings to turn ON iMessage but when I click on settings and then Messages, there is only the sign up fields, no activation buttons to slide across etc. Anyone out there with some help?

    How to resolve this problem:

Turn off and on (restart) your iOS device (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds, then slide the slider.)

    If restarting doesn’t fix it:

It has been reported that changing your DNS settings fixes this issue. To change DNS servers, follow these instructions for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad):

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Tap Wi-Fi on the left-hand side
    3. Tap the blue arrow next to your current Wi-Fi network
    4. Tap the “DNS” field and enter the DNS servers; 8.8.8.8 (Google’s Public DNS). For more information about Google’s public DNS, please see this:http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Hello there - this did not work for me. This is a brand new unit (ipod touch) and cannot the imessage or facetime to work. have made new apple id, changed DNS, restarted and done all that the blogs have suggested,

Any other ideas would be great as this is not the best way to spend day one using this new tool.

    Thanks in advance

This is crazy! We are going to have to complain to Apple about their junky product! There are complaints all over the internet - it's time that they get it together and help their customers out - and not have to jump through hoops to get answers.

I was having the same problem with my son's new ipod touch. I couldn't activate iMessage or Facetime. I tried changing the DNS, turned it on and off, changed the password, everthing. Then I moved closer to the router (I went in the other room and stood next to it) and got a really strong signal. It activated fine then. Maybe just coincidence, but might be worth trying if the signal is not that strong and you are having trouble.

I am having the same problem with a NEW iPad iOS 6.1.3. I have tried numerous solutions, here and from other sites with no resolve. My iMessage > Send and Recieve has no field to enter my telephone number. My Apple ID has been updated with all info current. Messaging works fin on my iPhone 4.

My iMessages on my iTouch 4 was working fine until a few weeks ago.  I changed the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 as mentioned here, and also checked my location in the settings.  Neither made any difference.  Any new ideas out there?

Ignore my previous message, and here's a fix that works that I found on another forum:

Go to Settings/Messages/Show Subject Field and make sure it's set to OFF.  Apparently, mine was set to ON, so in reality, when I thought I was typing a message, it was only the subject.

This worked beautifully! thanks so much! I added the dns setting 8.8.8.8 to the one already there, and now I can send messages just fine!
