"Other" data (iPhone) - How do I remove this junk?

I did a full rstore, and did not use a backup. This gave me a clean, basic iPhone with which I will spend many precious hours 'reloading'.

I did record a movie of about an hour. What happened when I deleted it? It deleted and 'OTHER' went to the size of the deleted movie. Seems, this is a source of 'other', it does not delete it on the iPhone, simply deletes the tag, the space becomes unusable. I have not tried to do another restore and see if I can delete it from iTunes or iPhoto. Maybe in my next life.

Awesome. I tried the "Delete Music" trick and it actually worked. All I had to do though is resync my music from iTunes.

Settings>General>Usage>Music(swipe left and select "delete") Then power off the iPhone.

I went from 2.49GB other to 0.55GB. Again, I had to resync the music from iTunes. That's the only downfall. But hey, it works, no joke.

    Thanks guys.

So i noticed i had 6.1 GB of other data on my ipod. Which is a lot, almost equal to my music. after looking around I found htis and rad lexxxa3's post. I rad her post

" I stumbled upon this little beauty "Settings/General/Usage/Music and then swipe left to right over the "All Music" entry and select Delete, then re-boot the iPhone." He stated, " you think it would delete all your music, but id doesn't" HOLY BALLS he was right, while for him it only cleared some MB's it cleared 2.3GB for me. I almost died."

I restarted my ipod and it still said 6.1 then almost instantly itunes corrected it to 1.02- WOW. when I had looked at the usage it said 5.1gb so there was where 5/6 of my other was from.

SO in short, go to Setting>General>usage>music and clear it

I did the Setting>General>usage>music and clear it.

It worked by reducing the Other data (1.4g to 0.2g).

PROBLEM is... none of my music then played right.... i.e. the skipping tracks didn't work right (i.e. it went from tract 3 to like 9, rather than 4), it would stop playing randomly, etc.  I tried to resync my music... didn't work.  So I deleted all music.  Turned off phone and turned on phone.  Resynced and put my music back.  Music plays fine now.  And the Other data (1.4g) is right back to where it was.

    Anyone else have this problem??????????????

I have to admit this happened to me too. I haven't bothered to re-sync yet, so cant confirm if that will fix it.

It's most likely not a problem; you really have 1.4 GB of data across all of your apps, texts, email, tweets, Facebook, Safari cache, Siri cache, contacts, calendars, notes, etc. "Other" is just what it says it is: Data on the phone that is not audio, photos, apps, video or books, the only data types listed explicitly. If it were 5 GB I'd say you had data corruption on the phone, but 1.4 GB is in a normal range. Mine is 1.7 GB.

I get that, but why does deleting the Music app remove 2GB-3GB of other space?

Because you have data corruption on your phone, in addition to the legitimate Other data. Restoring the phone will also remove it, AND will clean up the corruption.

Ok good to know. How does data corruption happen? How can i avoid this in the future? If i restore my phone and load from backup, wont it all come back?

The most common cause of data corruption is an interrupted sync.

Nothing will help. None of the 'FIXES' last for long.

The only option is to choice another smart phone product and dump APLLE until they remenber how Steve would have done it.

This new attitude of Apple. I don't like it. My eyes have been opened since Steve passed. Why would I spend 4 times as much for a product that is no longer superior to a Dell? Or a Smasung Galaxy 3. Both I love now.

Apple no longer makes sure their products WORK before they ship. Reminds me of Microsoft.

I am serious. Nothing introducted since Steve passed is worth a hill of beans.

iCloud is a joke, it broke my calender of 10 years. Microsoft is better at this

iPhone lost my music after an update. And has 'OTHER" now. Samsung is far better.

My iMac, the screen saver and sleep now longer work right. Dell with 7 is awesome.

Name any Apple product and I can tell you, it is now junk.

So, to add my comment again. I have done all of these "FIXES". Nothing helps, it comes back in a few days. We need an APP for that? Mine is now a paper weight, no app needed.

When I did this the Other was indeed gone, but the music was no longer playable. I could select items and hit play and the icon went to the play icon, but the music did not play and the counter did not advance.

So I am removing and restoring all music to the iPhone. Unfortunately Other has now re-appeared with 2GB MORE than it had before!

I Got the iPhone 5 on Friday and other is already just under 1g. How on earth is that possible.
