I never thought i'd ever say this, but i'm considering converting to an Android phone - the only reason i'm considering this is Apple's arrogance in believing they could replace Google maps with their own.

Street View - I can't work without street view, I travel for work and am always nervous about driving new roads, seeing them at street view before I go makes such a big difference to my confidence.

Me & my daughter got lost on a walk in the Lakes, I used Google maps to find our way - the little location dot turned into a directional view -showing us which way we were walking (we had been going in the opposite direction to our destination!).

I don't want a phone that can't give me street view and show me the way home - I won't be upgrading to iPhone 5, i'll be upgrading to an Android phone.

Apple Maps is a complete disaster, the worst app to ever be released by Apple. Seriously, what were they thinking? Incredibly inaccurate info, atrocious satellite imagery, no Street View options, where do I start?

I think Apple have seriously underestimed how much people use and rely on maps on their phones.  I'm pre-ording the new Nexus as soon as it's announced, google maps on Android is a thing of beauty.

Just use google maps. Load safari find google maps and then select to place it on your home screen and just use that rather than apple maps

Thanks - tried this but still no streetview.  Am I missing something?

A: It's alot slower access though safari than the old maps app was.

B: There still no street view because the browser version needs flash to run it.

So this isn't an answer for me

I agree.  The maps app is a huge mistake by Apple.  In the UK, the satellite images are so bad that any form of vague detail is not visible.  Even small towns are so pixelated that they are impossible to see.

Unfortunately, like others, I am waiting for my iPhone 5 tomorrow so am stuck with iOS 6.  Very dissatisfied.  The loss of any form of StreetView is a disaster and a huge backwards step.

Apple could have spent some of their tens of billions in at least buying decent satellite imagery of other areas in the world.

Ocean20, as most comments are about lack of StreetView, you posted a solution that is false.

How do you get StreetView in Safari?  Even Chrome in iOS doesn't support StreetView.

I've got the iphone 5 on order but am thinking of returning it during the 14 day 'cooling off period'. The trouble is I've laready updated my iphone 4 to iOS 6 and there's no legitimate way of restoring it to iOS 5. Oh how I wish I'd have waited before ordering the 5. Trouble is the Galaxy S3 doesn't do it for me either. I may use my cooling off period to give the iphone 5 back and just go and buy a 4S fro ebay that's not been updated yet.

    Apple, what have you done?

Apple Maps really *****!! Using it in Malaysia is rather painful - moreso if you're an iPhone 4 user where there's no turn-by-turn voice navigation feature or any of the other accourements for the 4s. With Google Maps, I could search for buildings and businesses and get some result. This is most disappointing!!! ARGHHH

Shockingly bad. How did Apple get this so wrong?

if you have been using Google maps to get from A to B you would be really having to keep on updating your phone, There are a number of free apps on the apple store, one being NavFree which is a fully functional speaking GPS system.

I think Apple have done the right thing, they have maybe taken a step back to make a stride forward,

I think this is going to cause chaos for Apple. I bet they didn't think they'd get a massive negative reaction about their Map App. For me the phone is much less useful with out Google Maps and streetview. I have actually canceled my first day purchase of iPhone 5 because of the map problem. I wont update my other devices to IOS 6 either.

What were they thinking? This could easily lead to a reasonable drop in sales. They have lost mine until I can get google street view on the device.

    See this: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/09/20/ios-6-without-google-apples-new-software-i s-a-road-map-to-frustration/

    it says:"

Google Maps, on the other hand, is nowhere to be seen at present, though the search giant has vowed to bring a dedicated app to the new platform."

Hope Google do it sooner rather than later
