Hi guys,

I'm having some problems during my "log and capture" on FCP 7... Everything started when all of the sudden my Mac Pro wasn't capturing audio from my VT (HDW-M2000). Seeing that problem I thought it was a problem with my "Aja Khona LHi", my capture hardware, so... I sent my Mac Pro for assistance on an authorized Aja company.... Well, they didn't detect any problem with the Aja Khona and they make some successfully captures on my Mac Pro, with audio...

So I started to think it was an internal problem and I requested the machine back to he office. So, when it come back the capture was worst then before!! Now when I open my "log and capture" in FCP 7 there is an instability that goes from a Green frame to black (or the last frame that the SDI cable could transfer). I can play the VT but anything happen! Just for you guys understand better I'm sending some images...

Ok.... We have saw that we do have an instability and the authorized company has said that It could be a problem with the FCP... It's possible? I mean, It was capturing the videos normally and then all of the sudden I had a compatibility problem?

Besides, they asked me to re-install the FCP 7 and I'm little afraid to do that... I never had re-installed the program and I don't know how it will be regarding the registration code! If I insert de serial key again it would me allow to do install it again? It would give me an error that this product it was already registered?

First thing to try is to delete your fcp preferences

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491

Reinstalling fcp should not be a problem if necessary but it's usually one of the last steps to take.

Here are some more fcp troubleshooting tips.

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2591

If you do reinstall, you need to completely uninstall first.  Digital Rebellion has a tool to do this

    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/

As long as fcp serial number is legit, you shouldn't have any problem re-entering it.  If you do, call Apple and they'll fix it for you.

Wondering if there's a problem with the deck feeding your aja card.  Can you try feeding the aja card with another source?  Or can you try an alternative path than sdi from the deck to the card?  Or try a different cable?  When you're just viewing thru the aja card and fcp rather than capturing, do you see any problems?

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for the quick answer! I did clean the FCP preferences but the problem continues....

Now that I have uploaded the images, do you really think that this could be a problem with FCP?

    Thanks,

Maybe I can try to change the slot of my deck to another PCI, if you think this can help...

Actually I tried to change cables and nothing happend... Another thing that I detected is that even with no cable this instability continues...

I detect those images when I was viewing thru FCP... Aja does't have any app that allows me to view by it self... so I depend on the FCP to preview something...

Not familiar with your particular configuration, but does the deck and the aja card require external synch or reference signal?  That could be the source of the problem.

And can you try connecting the deck to the card via component or composite video?

Changing the slot the card's installed in your computer may make a difference.  Check the cards documentation.  If I remember correctly, Aja does recommend certain slots.

Also, do you have more than one video card installed on your computer?  I seem to remember that that may cause problems.

And do you have any other cards installed on the computer?

    Micheal,

I just called another technical and he solved my problem easily.... I really don't know what he did but I think it was something of configuration system....

    I really appreciate your help!!!!!

    Have a great day!

The Aja card setup is a little tricky.  if you can find out exactly what this guy did and could post it, that might help other people who have a similar problem.

Just have a talk with him! My AJA was setup to capture Analog video and I was using a SDI cable!

That's was basicaly what he explaned thru the phone:

"When you have the Aja software installed in your computer you can go into AJA ControlPanel (in applications folder). There you will notice that you will have all the definitions of capture and ingesting. Starting of the source (in) until the last 'exit' (out) of your VTR. So, you will see lots of tabs. Go to 'Inputs' and pay attention into the 'Video Input' box to see were you would like to setup your capture of video. There you will see 'SDI', HDMI' and 'Analog'. If you don't have sure which one to use notice that on the right side of your selection there is a reference for you to know ('No video', '525i29.97' and serveral others formats..). Just select one and see if anything changes on your preview."
