Me too, this is the crappiest move since the new maps, how lovely that you can no longer mix music and podcasts or produce your own podcast playlists! Genius!

I find it a bizarre user experience to be in iTunes now, see playlists of podcasts in a very particular order, then to sync that with my iPhone/iPod and to have it not exist there.

The mis-handling of podcasts in iOS 6 is a huge surprise.  Like many others here, I use playlists to queue up audio podcasts for my commute/working out.  iOS 6 breaks that with its Podcast app, and my fear is the recently announced new iTunes will do the same.

Just delete the podcast app, switch your phone off and on again (you may have do do a sync at this point) and your podcasts are back where they should be.

The people who made this worthless app should, in no uncertain terms, lose their jobs.

The podcasts are back in the music app, but any playlists that contained just podcasts are still missing.  Have you gotten playlists to re-appear or just the podcasts themselves?

Deleting Podcasts app does bring podcasts back to Music app, but how can new ones be downloaded from iphone/ipad?

I got all my playlists and podcasts back in iTunes with a restart of the phone (after deleting the podcast app).

It appears the decision is either having the ability to download podcasts within an iDevice, or have the ability to organize and listen to them on an iDevice, but not both.

Yes sir. Two complete playlists of only podcasts, with no music in either of those particular playlists.

Yes, but it won't let me download new episodes.  When I press do that it just says I need the podcast app to do that.  Then I am in that circle again...ugh!

Exactly. Like I posted before it seems to be a choice of being able to download podcasts within the iDevice, or actually listen to podcasts (and organize them) on the iDevice.

And by saying that I am citing other threads on the Apple Forums that document the Podcast App stopping every time the screen goes to sleep, which is what lead me to this thread.

Apple needs to figure this out. We shouldn't have to be making these decisions.

Are you using iTunes match?  Are you syncing over wifi or cable?

I am going to try Polar's suggestion.

I use podcast playlists daily whilst riding to and from work.  With the podcast app I would have to keep stopping and choosing new podcasts to play.  Not very useful in my opinion.

Thank you Polar2100 and derrific this worked a treat.

This is how I got it working.

    1. Terminate the podcast app.

    2. Delete the podcast app.

    3. Turn off the iPhone and turn it back on.

(I tried to access my podcast playlists after this but no luck)

    4. Terminate the running Music app and launch it again.

To properly terminate a running app you need to double-tap the home button, then hold one of the apps in the list of running apps at the bottom, then click the minus sign to terminate them.

Next question.  I should receive a new iPhone 5 in a matter of hours.  Anyone know if this process will work on an iPhone 5 with IOS 6 from the factory?  Should be the same OS so I really hope it does.

You can add them manually from the iTunes store. Just search for your podcast, and select the episodes to download. I agree with everybody, this is one of the worst bonehead moves by apple since the internal design of 8500/9500 Power Macs.
The other thing that ***** about this, when I hook up my iPod to the SYNC in my Focus via the USB (so I can charge it), you have to use either the voice commands or on screen menu to control the iPod. The ipod's screen just show its connected. SYNC doesn't understand podcasts. It DOES understand playlists. Since I listen to podcast during my commutes, not being able to put them in a playlist is a royal PITA. Thanks Polar2100 for the advice!
