HT1533: Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs

Learn about Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs

HT1533 My MacBook Pro can't get past the blue screen on startup.  Wheel spins, blue screen "blinks" and within a few seconds, the wheel starts spinning again.  I have reset the NVRAM, removed the battery with the power off, and tried various startup key combos.

MacBook Pro can't finish the startup.  It goes from the gray apple with spinning wheel to a blue screen with spinning wheel.  Just can't get past that.  What I've tried:  resetting the NVRAM, removing the battery with power off (that whole procedure), attempting a restart using avrious key combinations.  When I got to the console and went through that a few times I got a message that the disk seemed OK and got a prompt to login.  Each time, the login was "incorrect."  Thanks.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
