Aaaaand, after all that, I've just discovered that my primary reason for upgrading, shared photo streams, isn't available in 10.7.  I'm stuck with 10.7 because I have a Mac Pro 1,1 which Apple has deemed unworthy of 10.8.

Sigh. 

The last 24 hours have severely tested my long and dedicated faith to Apple.

Simplest, least destructive solution: Do this in terminal.app:

     defaults remove com.apple.Aperture AccountConfigurations

This removes the facebook setup that is making the app blow up.

This totally did it!  Thank you very much!  I just pasted the line of text you included in and hit Enter...then reopened Aperture without a glitch this time!  Finally! 

As a professional photographer, I don't have time to mess with this and although I back up my library often my evenings are spent editing...not messing around with a well-established program that should have the kinks worked out on a simple ".x" upgrade!

Cool. BTW, don't try to re-add facebook credentials. It will just barf again. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.

I added FB accounts and have had no problem...

I did that in Terminal and it just told me that:

'There is no (AccountConfigurations) default for the (com.apple.Aperture) domain.

Defaults have not been changed.'

I delete Apeture then re-install from the trial version(3.0) and then upgrade to 3.4 ...

And it works

same thing. I'm far away from install disks and reinstalling is not an option for months to come. I was hoping photokina would trigger an Aperture (3.)4 release, but this is just annoying. every update since 3.2. makes it worse. compatible to the rest of the i-Line-up but generally less and less useful in it's core function. Guess they'll soon drop it in favor of iPhoto anyway, which is now able to open the Aperture library, so no one can complain about being stuck.

But thanks to the users of this forum, you saved my day (and probably week) - again!

But if you have a decent internet connection you can download the trial version from this site:  Aperture 3.1 Trial

After installalling it, upgrade immediately to 3.4 by downloading the installer from the support page.

Then you can besure to have a complete install.

Where does one go to download a trial version.  I have purchased 1,2,3 but have no disk anymore.  I find this link not very helpful.
