When I start my Mac I often get a screen full of what looks like linux code.  This started when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Can you help?

When I start up my Mac I often get a screeful of what looks like linix code.  This started when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  If I power down and restart the machine I generally get a normal start.  However, I would like to correct this annoyance.  Can you help?  Thanks in advance, David in Scotland
