I completed my preorder on Sep14 @ 4:45am EST for a 64gb Black iPhone 5.
As of now, my AT&T is still showing my order at:
processing/pending shipment /backordered/whatever
This is after calling them day after day to find out *** is going on.
1) told I should receive my phone on time for ordering before the 9am cutoff.
2) told that I missed the cutoff, and AT&T doesn't know when they ship my phone
3) told that i have no idea what my place in the order line is (despite ordering at 4:45am EST), and that I cannot make any claim to AT&T being late with my order.
4) told that Sep21 delivery is only suggested. Apparantly, i didnt read the fine print when ordering.
5) my phone will ship Sep21
6) my phone will ship no earlier than Oct4-15
7) shipping my phone can take 14-21 business days
8) I dont need to accept terms and conditions
9) my phone is backordered because I did not accept the terms and conditions
10) hung up on by a nasty condescending manager
11) told that iPhone5 phone upgrade orders have priority over new line orders
12) told my phone is scheduled to ship "tonight" (on Sep20)
A nice rep did some digging for me and found that because I "added a line", which didn't process till 2pm(!), that I missed the 9am cutoff point.
I was so furious, I threatened to leave AT&T. I got a manager to credit my account for $90 (1 month), on top of the $36 activation-fee i got waived before. I told him I would only accept the $90 compensation if he admitted to me that AT&T screwed up. He apologized very politically about it (which is an apology in an unapologetic tone), and I was just so meh at that point, so I accepted.
I honestly still feel cheated only because AT&T won't be straight with us.
I can understand the logistical nightmare, especially for AT&T. But no other serious company today repeatedly lies so badly to its customers all the time, if not downright brush them off.
I encourage you all to teach this company a lesson. I doubt I or many others will stay with them in the long run. Especially now that Verizon iPhones come unlocked, and AT&T is still nasty about this too with its loyal customers!
i think that everyone who had a problem with their preorder should DEFINITELY voice their experience on this forum. Maybe if enough of us post complaints, Apple will respond accordingly.
i ordered my black 64GB iPhone at an At&t store on September the 14th at 9am Pacific. I was the first person in the store that day and the first person to complete and pay for my order in full. i was promised a delivery date of Friday the 21st. As of today, my nearly $500 purchase is still "processing" at ATT. Yesterday when I called customer service, I was told that my phone had shipped and that I should expect to receieve it by today. Today has come, and nearly gone and no phone. I was not provided with a tracking number nor a promised delivery date. i am seriously confused as to why there is a "pre-ordering" system when all that means is that ATT and Apple get your money in advance and then you have to wait up to 3 weeks for your device. My coworker decided today that he wanted the iPhone 5, he walked down to the local ATT store and bought it right then and there. if this isnt a slap in the face to loyal apple fans, i dont know what is. people who heeded apple's advice and pre-ordered have basically taken a back seat to those who didnt. AT&T's lack of professionalism is extremely disconcerting and the fact that the reps are allowed to LIE over the phone just to appease an upset customer is frankly DISGUSTING. i thought our phone conversations were recorded for a reason ATT???!??

I am outraged by this "Pre-Order" process with AT&T. I actually got my pre-order in on the 13th at the AT&T store. The representative had taken down my payment information and promised to process the prder first thing friday (9/14) morning to ensure that the order will be shipped/delivered on the 21st. Few days ago, I received a e-mail confirming my order and that they will get shipped within 14-21 business days. WHAT??? 14-21 BUSINESS DAYS?! I called the store back immediately and they told me that the e-mail was sent out to everyone who has pre-ordered thru AT&T and that my order should still be received on the 21st. This morning I checked the status of my delivery using the tracking number the've e-mailed to us and it says processing order. No shipping dates or any sign of delivery. Again I called the AT&T store furiously to get to the bottom of this and the representative over the phone cared less about what I had to say. Not a single apology. In the end, they blamed Apple for promising them that they will supply enough to fulfill all the pre-orders. The worst part is, I walked into the AT&T store in the afternoon and saw the 16g Black iPhone 5 (the phone I had Pre-ordered) in stock. I requested for them to cancel my pre-order so that I can purchase the phone they have in stock only to find out that the order cannot be cancelled. I guess once they have you locked on the pre-order, they no longer care about your satisfaction. As I was walking out of there very upset, I saw several people walking into the store and simply purchasing the new iPhone in front of my eyes. I have never been more upset with AT&T then now.
If you are in a same situation as many of us on this forum, we should all boycott AT&T for the next cntract. It's too late for me for the next 2 years but I will definately leave AT&T after my 2 years are up.
I love this chatter. What's interesting is there are about 1000 people with this problem and you think your entitled to everything. No your not, it will ship when it ships. The technology answers the questions not the reps or managers. They tell you what they see and their hands are tied. I am sure you will get your phone sooner then later.
I "PRE-ORDERED" my phone on 9/14/2012 at 8:42:55 CDT and had the phone shipped to the store I ordered it through (no one is home during the day and I am NOT about to have the phone sitting outside on the doorstep until I get home from work). I went to the store after work today with my receipt and walked in and said "i'm here to pick up my phone please" the rep went to the back and 5 minutes later came out empty handed and told me that NO phones came in today. I proceeded to tell her that "Shane" promised me that my phone would be shipped to the store and would be available for pick up on Launch day. she said I was lying...I immediately asked to see a manager. Manager basically told me I was full of S#!T. they never once appologized for their screw up. I came home and decided to call AT&T customer care (I used to work for AT&T customer service) I was told that I would not have my phone until October 15th (at the earliest) Why did I order a phone early AND pay for it in full if they NEVER intended to honor the orders? I'm going back to the store tomorrow and won't leave until they A) Give me an Iphone 5 or B) cancel my Order and give me some compensation for the issue.
Well I got my Iphone on time and am using it right now! AT&T goers: make sure to get the refund for the upgrade since you have to wait longer then the majority of people. You might also want to check in store as there are still apple stores with iphones so check there and buy one then just return your iphone when it gets to you.
Don't bother getting the iPhone 5. I returned mine to the Apple Store after receiving it in the early morning of Friday, September 21, 2012. It was nothing but crap, didn't work, and was full of bugs. I was treated like total garbage at the Apple Store! They didn't even have the technology to process my iPhone 5 refund, and after being in the store for 1-1/2 hours, after the store closed, I demanded they give me cash for my return. They finally did, but still were not able to give me credit on my AT&T account for the returned iPhone! Apple = TOTAL EPIC FAIL!
I will be calling Cupertino, California, first thing Monday morning and giving Apple a piece of my mind! I don't care if I have to spend all day on the phone. I can't believe the filthy way their employees treated me! I am selling all of my Apple products. I will NEVER have anything to do with Apple ever again!
AT&T sent me an e-mail to preorder my iPhone 5 lol. I guess those idiots still haven't figured out that I already made my order within two hours of preorders and I have no phone. I have no shipping info or even an e-mail confirmation for a date. AT&T screwed me and now are rubbing salt in the wound.
So, I've been following this thread since day one...seeing pre-orders go right on track for some people, and terribly wrong for others. I am indeed a the victim of the chaos. :[
At first, I was for sure going to pre-order my iPhone through Apple at 12:01 PST, when it dropped, but the website was giving me a stupid error that I didn't even understand and offered to "reserve" me one for 24 hours. I was skeptical about it but ended up going with it since it would for sure deliver on the 21st.
(Today. t(-_-t)) I went to bed, slept well knowing one was reserved for me, and hopeful that it would work in the morning. It didn't. I did not kow what else to do, so I proceeded to check the AT&T webside (worst idea ever) and noticed that it was running smoothly, unlike the night before.
I stupidly ordered a white 16 GB phone around 7 AM through stupid AT&T Premier. They send me a confirmation email saying yadda yadda my phone has been "reserved" and shall arrive as soon as Friday 9/21 (uh huh f u fine print).
For the next 3 days after the pre-order, the order status link they gave me stated that it was "processing." I thought it was a good sign until I checked the link you guys posted up on here and it said that had my phone had been dun dun dun....BACKORDERED. Actual tears almost fell from my actual eyeballs. I freaked. If I received a dollar for every time I called AT&T after that, INCLUDING TODAY (but I'll get to that in a min), I'd probably be able to buy myself a new UNLOCKED iPhone. I'm not kidding. And just like you all, I received many many many different excuses as to why this happened and why my phone was not processed soon enough. My order status now says "received" as of, I believe, Wednesday but it continues to be backordered.
Then there I was, on release date, contemplating whether or not I should just stomp my way up to AT&T and just cancel the **** preorder + purchase one there. Unfortunately, I cracked a little too late because when I finally did decide to go, it was most likely too late. (1 PM) I called literally, I'm not kidding, 30 different AT&T, Best Buy, and Apple Store locations and all of them were sold out. All. ALL. I can understand that because it's release date but I just lost it. I'm so frustrated because I have absolutely no clue who to call for the correct information, what to believe, when my phone will be freaking coming, and why I'm sitting here complaining to a forum. Hi guys, I'm officially insane.
I am so sorry you are experiencing this, badger19. However, I really do believe that this might actually work in your favor (that is, not bothering with the iPhone 5 at all). I was really looking foward to it, but it has turned out to be nothing but a huge time waster and a real disappointment.
