Sounds like "Lightning Gate"...  I have the same issue.  The phone won't charge via the wall plug or connect to the computer. When I do connect it to the USB port of my computer the USB mouse shuts off! tried everything moving cable around reboots of everything.  Sounds like bad cable or connection.

I am also having a problem charging my 5 and it is plugged into the wall not the computer. Any time I pick it up or touch, it the connection with the charger is broken. This really *****. I've never had a device on the day it came out before and I was really stoked to get this one. Looks like that was a bad choice.

Well, I only had the problem charging while it it was connected to a computer.  When I plugged it into an AC outlet it charged fine.

My iPhone 5 is not carging as well. When I plug the Lightning cable to the new adapter it also make a weird buzzing sound. I tried the adapter with my old 30 pin connnecter and it charged my iPhone 4 without a problem but iPhone 5 wont charge even with old adapter+lightning cable setup. I guess few of us recieved defected lightning cables which we have to deal with. In my case I have to drive 80 miles to the nearest apple store!!

Same problem here, also this was my first time buying any device on its release date Really disapointing. Cable only works for me if you push it in and pull it up a bit.

I have similar problem. It recognizes the connection and turns on, but not charge, and can not connect to Itune.

I believe it is IOS 6 problem. Not charging or problems related to it is occurring in ipads, iphone 4 and iphone 5. Since Apple decided for a different power system in iPhone 5 and for a new product, a connector for iphone 5 to be used with older cables, IOS 6 should works or able to work with different amps.

I am not a tech guy but it is very frustrating see my iphone 4s about two months old refusing to charge/reboot/reset. It is refuses to charge and I have tried different connectors, new and old ones and different mac computers.

I hope this issue will be solved or explained soon.

    Good luck

Nope my iPhone 5 isn't charging either.

Had it plugged in all night (am in Australia), and it ran out of charge by lunch time. Plugged into computer - refuses to charge. Plugged into wall charger, refuses to charge (and yes I have the USB plug around the right way). It will work while plugged into the wall charger but it won't charge. The plugged-in charger is quite hot, which is a worry too.

I can't revert to my old 4S because the sim card is different. What now? I need the phone! It's the only way people contact me! No car chargers around yet. With so many reporting the same problem, one wonders how much quality control there is with what is essentially an $800-$1000 product in Australia.

My local Apple Store, which is not where I bought it, is in the middle of an enormous shopping centre that is incredibly difficult to get to - for me, almost impossible. The store I did buy it from is now all out of iPhone 5s, so it cant even be swapped. Some fine mess!

I called the Apple store who are deneying all knowledge of it being a 'known problem', so I'm going to see them after work today and try a new cable (luckily they have lots in stock).  I'll update here with any results!

We have 2 iPhone 5's in the house, My cable stopped working, used the other lightning cable, works fine. Looks like its a problem with the cables.

My cable is not working either! It will not charge when plugged into the wall or computer. My computer does not recognize it when plugged in so I can't sync it with my old iTunes library! Very annoyed because my battery is dead and now I can't use my new phone!

I am having the same issue....won't charge from wall or computer with the phone on   I tried turning off the phone and plugging into wall...this seems to be working (for the time being).    APPLE needs to fix this issue quickly.

I am also experiencing this issue.  My iPhone came with a 97% charge, it was completely dead within 12 hours with only 2 hours of use.  Plugged it in to charge and got the initial screen where the battery level is too low for the phone to turn on yet so it charges for a while.  And then nothing.  It's been plugged in for over an hour now, nothing comes up on the screen no matter what.  Unplug it, plug it back in, same exact result.

My phone is now completely dead and had horrible battery life to begin with.  I'm expecting Apple to replace it.  Nothing short of that will work for me.

Genius appointment set for later today as I can't call Apple since my only phone is basically dead on arrival.
