Q: itunes match 4010 error

Today I'm getting an "unknown error occured (4010)" when iTunes Match tries to update.  It sits at "Waiting for Apple to deliver your iTunes Match result..." for awhile and then it puts up that error.  It did so both before updating to iTunes 10.7 (Windows) and afterwards.

I can update genius info, but not match.

Anyone else having this problem?

I've had this problem since the first week of June. My iTunes match has not successfully completed a single update since then. I have tried every remedy I can find online, but nothing helped. I contacted Apple support via email, but got no response. For a time, I thought it might be that my computer was too old, but I have since replaced the computer and still no luck. I spent last weekend and all day yesterday (Sept. 15) cleaning up my iTunes library, then I ran "organize library" overnight last night. This morning, I'm still getting the 4010 error. Extrmemly disappointing, as it worked beautifully for me prior to that first week of June. I have turned off my auto-renew.

BTW, all of my household computers and devices are Apple, and all are running the current software versions, so I don't believe your operating system is the problem.

Very strange - for me it's the same problem.

I've tried to move my library from my Macbook Pro to my new-buyed-used mac-mini. It all went sucessfull, but until the movement of my library, all works fine - only iTunes Match isn't working until then.

Now my mac-mini should be the one, who's syncing with iTunes Match.

I've already connected my Macbook Pro again with a all-new library and can acess my cloud-hosted songs. Also from my iPad 2 & my iPhone - but i can't sync any new songs to my account...

    :-(

I also get the same, meaningless Message as Morac already posted: "unknown error occured (4010)"

Is any body here who has a tipp/sloution for me?

Also I'm afraid, that no one from the hotline has a tipp/solution - sounds like they need some training?

I signed up for match last Friday . Had a variety of errors mostly 4010 and 4002 - but has never run to completion  . Have turned OFF/ON match. It gathers info , sends it to apple , but never completes . On the mac , it shows everything in the clould , on my Ipad , may 30% is matched and not greyed out . Whole albums missing and some partial .

Have looked at posts , but cant see anything concrete that has worked for me to resolve. Pretty poor from Apple ....

Still having this problem.  Definately something on Apple's end, but I don't know how to fix it.

I was hoping (but not really expecting) the new iOS 6 and the various consequent app upgrades would address this, but I've tried roughly 40 syncs over the last week and still get the 4010 error every time. At this point, I've moved beyond even caring how to fix it. I turned off my auto-renew and have gone back to syncing my music via USB. Very disappointing, but its really the first time I've ever been dissatisfied with an Apple service or device, so I guess overall I can't complain.

I've found that if I right click individual songs and choose "Add to iCloud" that works.  Not particularly useful if you have thousands of songs, but it is a work around.

I still can't do Store -> Update iTunes Match though.

I was planning on letting it expire since it breaks syncing songs that iTunes Match doesn't like for whatever reason, but I still have 5 months left.  Maybe Amazon Cloud will work better?  At least Amazon support is better.

Instead of individual songs, shift-click to select a few hundred, then right click and "Add to iCloud".

There's a possibility that there's a "bad" song file that Match chokes on, by doing it in batches you may be able to narrow it down and figure out which song it is. (while I haven't experienced this particular error with iTunes Match, I did have something similar happen to me when using lala.com - the service that Apple purchased and eventually transformed into iTunes Match).

You also may want to sort your music collection by the iCloud status, which can make it easier to hone in on the files that still need to be added, plus any errors.

I'll give this a try. If it works, then I'm totally happy with this as a solution. Once done, then I should only ever have to update it when I add new music to my library, right? Which would still be preferable to having to do a USB sync to all my devices.

I've found that iTunes Match periodically tries to update on it's own, even if there's nothing new in the library to update.  In which case the error will still occur, but everything already in the cloud will still be there.

No dice. Tried to do all songs starting with A (just over 500 songs), got 4010 error. Tried 1 album (11 songs), again 4010. Finally, tried 1 song -- 4010.

Regarding sorting by iCloud status, ALL my songs show as being in iCloud, but they are not there. Only about 53 of them are actually available when I log in from my iPhone or iPad. Which is very curious, because Match worked perfectly for me from November to June; all my songs were either matched or uploaded, and all of them showed on all my devices. Since June, as Match has tried to update itself on its own schedule, I got progressively fewer songs available in the Cloud, despite the indication in my desktop iTunes showing them in the cloud.

Hmmm, I wonder if in your case if turning off iTunes Match and turning it back on would help.   I suppose it could cause your 53 songs to disappear, making things worse, but if you don't mind that you could try.

Personally I disabled iTunes Match on my iPad and iPhone because it was deleting my custom ringtones, voice memos, etc.  There's also a number of ineligable songs.   Basically I didn't like Apple's either use iTunes syncing or Match, but not both philosphy.  So I have no idea if I have missing songs or not.  Like I mentioned, I like Amazon's music player app since it let's me play both synced iTunes music and Amazon cloud music.  I don't have to choose one or the other.

I haven't tried this, but according to this web site, supposedly this should fix the problem:

    1. Go to Store menu
    2. Press Option (Shift on Windows) and Turn Off iTunes Match together
    3. Go back to Store menu and turn on Match as normal

Don't believe necessary but probably best to quit and restart iTunes between steps 2 and 3

For Windows, replace "Option" with "Shift".  This will cause iTunes Match to basically start from scratch so it will need to rescan all your music and re-upload any non-matches.  That can take awhile.

If it still doesn't work. There are other possible solutions listed in this thread.

Personally I don't like the way iTunes Match works so if the above fix doesn't work for me, I'll probably just turn it off and be done with it.

Note, that prior to doing the above, it would probably be a good idea to simply turn iTunes Match off and on.  That doesn't wipe out the matching cache so it will only take a few minutes.  If that doesn't work, then try turning it off while holding shift or option.

I contacted Apple and they recommended simply trying to turn of iTunes Match and back on so that's what I'm going to try first.

I turned it on and off about a thousand times, without result.

I have NOT tried turning it off while holding the Option key. I'll give that a try when I get home this evening and see what happens.

I do feel like it has to be something like a cache issue or similar problem, because the whole system/service worked flawlessly for me for about 8 months, and when it stopped working I had not changed anything. It just stopped working, plain and simple.
