Same issue here After updating iPhone 4 to iOS6, fully charged battery lasts about 10-12 hours. Previously used to last about 24. This is a pretty serious degradation as far as I am concerned and hope that Apple resolves this witha fix pronto.

Same battery issue for me ( iPhone 4 / iOS 6). My battery drained 50% in 3 hours in my pocket with out an background apps running.

I did use maps to get to my location. That is the only "new" app I have loaded or used recently. After turning off traffic as suggested above my battery now seems stable. I think maps is having major problems. Apple needs to fix the constant traffic polling even after the maps app is closed.

I Was having the same issues with the battery draining faster after the update. I checked on several other forums, and other people are experiencing the same problem. There have been many great suggestions on what we can do. For me personally, I did a reset of all settings, a hard reboot then let the battery drain until my phone shut down on its own. I then charged it to full. It now seems that I am getting the battery life I had with 5.1.1., which I felt was pretty good to start with. About two hours light use (a picture, some Internet , some standby and a few texts) and I am still at 100% I do have wifi off at the moment, but I find that having it on does not affect my battery life too much to begin with. Anyway, after the reset, hard reboot and battery drain/charge, I seem to be getting good battery life again.

I Would try these things first and see if that helps, before I would to a compete wipe and set up like a new phone.

I Personally like Apple too much to even think about the alternatives, so I would have probably suffered through the battery issue. Might have bought an external battery case. But for now, it seems that the issue has been solved for me. I wish others good luck

when a new iphone along with ios is released apple sends out software updates that  corrupts older iphones so people have to buy new ones it has been proven by someone on youtube but i think apple got the video pulled down.because my iphone was working 100% fine before ios now its slow buggy camera is not a clear anymore and its getting hot and text messages are failing.apple is not the only company that do this hp have software that monitor the warranty on you computer and once it is out of warranty it slows down your computer and you have to pay then to speed it back up.apple denied it but all the facts point in the other direction as does for hp.so dont exspect your phone to work like it use to because it wont.

I woke up this morning with 1% battery life left on my 4GS. I started investigating since I had updated to iOS 6 yesterday & now my battery was not lasting through the night when it wasn't being used at all! I found that for some reason after the update was complete data roaming had been turned on. I switched that off and any notifications that I don't use and my battery is back to normal. I fully charged 3 hours ago and I'm still at 100%. The battery life is actually even better than it was before! Hope this helps. Viva Apple!!

I just ran into a very strange issue I haven't seen reported yet. My battery was at 72% but after a hard reset (no charging) it came back at 84%! How does that happen? There is an obvious issue with the iOS upgrade.

Other than that my battery appears to be working now running through the steps someone else posted about turning off a few things. For me it appeared to be traffic. Which also coincided with me using the maps app earlier in the day. Even forcing the app closed did not fix it. I assume the traffic constantly calls home so traffic can be reported. Turning it off in the settings because it is not available in my area fixed it. Others may not experience this issue because the traffic feature works in their area so it isn't trying to constantly connect. Apple is working to fix this terrible app so maybe they will fix this too. I hope that helps others.
