HDCP Error when trying to play iTunes HD content

The title says just about it all. I have a brand new Macbook Pro 15 inch with retina display, and when trying to view purchased HD content from the apple store I get an error message saying: "The selected movie won't play on your display. This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)." Whats the deal?! I'm pretty fed up with this error message and would like to view my expensive contect that I have purchased from iTunes.

I have the same exact problem... Any ideas? Is there a setting or something?

Me too, and same computer (base model MBP Retina, playing on the built-in display, don't even have an external display connected). Oddly, it *just* started generating that error -- previous plays of other iTunes HD movies (Prometheus, Avengers) were error free. Subsequent play of Avengers gets the error.

Had the same problem and spoke with Apple Support. They had me reset the System Management Controller:

Shut down the computer. With the computer off, on the left hand side of the keyboard press shift+control+option along with the power button simultaneously and release. Wait 5-10 seconds and restart the computer.

This solved my problem and I was immediately able to purchase, download, and play an HD movie from iTunes w/o any error message.

Same problem after downloading a movie today. Checked out previous purchases that played fine in the past. Nope, can't watch any of them anymore. Yes they stream to Apple, TV, but I can't watch on my computer.

Tried the shift+control+option restart with no success. Am I doing it right? Just held down all 3 while hitting power button. Computer (early 2013 Mac Mini) restarted as normal. Haven't checked yet to see if I can watch on my rMBP or iPad Air..

Been searching forums and see this problem has been ongoing for avery long time. Odd that it just started being a problem for me after 9 months.

Apple doesn't seem to be responding to any of this. How does one let them know I won't be buying any more content if I can't watch the thing on my main computer? Very frustrating.

If the computer restarted when you held the three keys and pushed the power (simultaneously), then it probably didn't work. With the power completely off, push the keys and power key and immediately release—nothing perceptable happens when you do this if done properly—release, wait 5-10 seconds and then power up normally.

If indeed this is what you did, then it may be a separate issue or Apple may have changed something in the hardware for the 2013 Mini or in Mavericks.

Hope it helps.
