Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

iPhone 5, iOS 6

Mine too .... fingers crossed. All the same it would have been nice if none of us had to fix anything. Its been a frustrating waste of time. But I live in hope all bugs will be fixed including melting maps and battery power issues.

    100% agree with you!

I think we are the guinea pigs for testing these phones!

    Good luck !

I discovered this problem as soon as i got my iphone 5. I first set it up as a back up and then after it did it, the set up screen came and couldn't really discover any wifi... So i skipped that.

For the last 48 hours i have had extremely patchy wifi. Where my ipad 3 got network i got some

And then it would disappear and i would just have 3G instead.

Every so often i had to reconnect the wifi by turnin the iphone wifi on and off (i don't have control over my wifi).

I did a test last night with my iphone at the exact same spot - my iPad 3 displayed the speed at 7.5MBPS but the iphone 5 displayed it as 0.78MBPS.

I went to sleep, woke up this morning and done a speed test and now the wifi problem seems to have fixed itself... Also it hasn't dropped the connection since i started using it this morning.

This leads me to believe it is software prone rather than a hardware issue. If it happens again i will restore it and test again, but i believe that it is a firmware/software problem

John Laury's solution worked for me to access my home Wi-Fi.  I have a 4S and updated to iOS6.  Since then, I've had problems accessing my home Wi-Fi but haven't had problems on other Wi-Fi.  I copied the info from my laptop, making the 102 change as well and it worked.

I'm not sure how this can be a software issue as we bought 2 iphone 5's. One works & connects to any wifi, home, shopping centre, etc. the other cannot connect to any wifi, including the Telstra shop.  They couldn't give me another phone as they sold out.  Hopefully they will get another shipment in soon so I can get a new one.

It's pretty shocking that Apple release a product and this kind of issue occurs, the only way I can get my families iPhone 5's to work on our wifi is to have a separate SSID and have it set on WEP encryption then it works no problem.

On WPA/WPA2 PSK it just doesnt do anything, I only hope Apple come up with a fix and at least acknowledge there is a fault.

I shall call Apple tomorrow to see what options I have with my phone.

I got my iPhone 5 on Friday and had untill then a lot of Problems with all wifi's i want to connect. It works for a short time (1-10min or watching 1 or 2 youtube videos), but then a bit later the iPhone tells me, that it is connected, but i've got no internet connection...

I've got 3 routers/access points two AVM FritzBox 7270 and one TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and i tested all possible settings, 802.11 n+g, b+g, n+g+b, n+a on 2,4ghz or on 5ghz. But on all these settings the same.

I restored my iPhone 5, without any backup, but no improovement.

I read about a possible Problem with the encryption WPA/WPA2, so i decided to change one of my access points to WEP/128, and IT WORKS....

I know, WEP/128 isn't that much secure, but i turned on the mac-clause and now this is my WORKAROUND AT HOME untill Apple has fixed it.

I called the Apple customer care in Germany and they told me that this is maybe be a hardware problem, because not all people have theese problems, but they don't know this, yet.

    X3ntor and ryodan4 ,

You say you set up without back up which is fine but

Did you setup via 3G OR wifi?

You need to set up using your 3G cellular option

And set up as a new phone option!

Let me know if that works etc!

    Ryodan4

    When you do reset

Then you can Start you set up your

    Phone again.

As you follow the instructions it

Will say whether you want to connect using wifi or

    Using your network ?

Wait for your network to show 3G

On top left of phone first and as

Soon as that shows up you select

To connect using network and don't use

Wifi to connect in initial setup!

Also after that it will ask you to setup As

New phone or back up and you

    Choose new phone.

See how that goes for you.
