Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

iPhone 5, iOS 6

Just exchanged my 64gb for not picking up wifi signal. Would not even detect any networks in the Apple store. First one they had come back at this store. No problem finding my network how.

I found out something that might be useful in evaluating the problem.

I'm experiencing problem 2 (probably) and definitely problem 3.  Regarding problem 3, I just realized that I can get push notifications from apps but can't access the internet either through safari or through apps that access the internet (e.g., facebook).

Was mine the 4th? (see one above your post)

I'm going to bet it's related to the WPA2 issue. I'll have to go look at the N spec, but I'll guess N doesn't support WPA/WEP, and by forcing N the phone goes down a different code path and doesn't exercise the bug. I have no idea if this accurate.. just an educated theory.

I've been on multiple networks all weekend, and my 5's pulling MUCH slower connections than my wife's 5, or my macbook pro, my neighbor's HTC EVO, or his wife's iPhone 4, I've confirmed it at home on my personal network where I know I'm not having problems with the network, my 1st gen ipad is faster, my MBP is faster, my wife's iphone5 is faster....

the real insult here is...my iphone 5 is faster on the verizon 3G network than it is on my 12 meg DSL connection!

please, if there's a solution, let me know.  it's NOT all about WPA2 btw, because the networks I've been on all weekend were open networks, and my airport extreme is set up on WPA, not WPA2

Maybe you have problem #2 - bad hardware/antenna?

How did you configure your airport extreme to only WPA? I only see WPA/WPA2 or WPA2. WPA/WPA2 allows clients to use either. I don't see a way to force WPA.

    Hello!

Sorry a lot of you are having issues with connecting via wifi.  I have the Linksys E2500 router and had issues connecting via WPA Personal with AES encryption.  I switched the router to WPA with TKIP encryption and it worked flawlessly.  I also changed it to WEP and connected with no issues as well.  The issue is keeping a sustained connection with WPA2/AES as some have discovered.

Today, I went to the Apple Store and told them about the issues I was having, which was connecting to routers that are WPA2/AES.  The guy understood basic networking, so this was helpful.  I told him my problem sounds like several who have already posted on the Apple Forums.  He quickly found several discussions relating to WPA2/AES issues and agreed I must have a bad phone if I am having problems keeping a solid connection.  They replaced my iPhone 5 (32gb) without any hassels.  Now, it wasn't until I got home that I could test device because they did not have a WPA2/AES setup in the Apple store.  Fortunately, my new phone has no issues connecting to WPA 2/AES at all, so the riddle has been solved and I am happy now.

Does anybody know if this is hardware or software related?  I believe a bad batch of phones must have been released before Apple could correct.

    Thanks and hope this helps!

I changed my router to AES + TKIP.  Can you configure it to use TKIP encryption?  Sorry, not familiar with your router.

apparently I'm set on the first, as my config on my iphone, ipad, storm2, playbook, and macbook pro all show as WEP, not WEP2

Well if this is true, then it means that both of my replacement phones have the same hardware flaw as my originals.. and that I have really bad luck.

Did they give you a new commercially boxed one or a service one in a plain white box?

Plain white box. But they're brand new, too (for now at least).

They gave me one in a plain white box, which they kept the box and they placed a white sticker with my name on it.
