Apple's email addresses with the domain @mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com cannot be renamed.

You can add up to three 'email aliases' which are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main address. It's quite a good idea to give out an alias address rather than the main address since if you get spammed it can be easily deleted without affecting sync.

At present you may find you have to wait until your account has been upgraded to use the @icloud.com version of the address - you will get an email when this has been done. New aliases will be @icloud.com, not @me.com.

can someone tell me why i have to have 2 apple ID's to use iCloud?   I have been using  an ID with no @me.com for many yrs, but to use iCloud I had to create an new apple ID with an @me.com.  I was on the phone for over 2 hours with support with an issue on the 4th gen ATV, (which BTW they couldn't help me with) and thats where i found out i have 2 apple ID's. This means i have 2 sets of payment info with apple, 1 for iTunes and the app store and one for iCloud.

I have looked at Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support  but it did not explain why they set up iCloud this way. And now a new app store for ATV 4th gen? Is it the same app store for iTunes?

Anyway just venting here, starting to lose confidence with apple products....
