For those who can see the playlist in the Music app but cannot see the contents of the playlist.

Force quit the Music app and relaunch it.

    1. Press the home screen to ensure you are out of the Music app.

    2. Double tap the home button.

    3. Press and hold the Music app icon in the running apps list.

    4. Touch the red - to force close the Music app.

    5. Press the home button to exit.

    6. Launch the music app again.

I had the podcast playlist problem.  My Music app now functions mostly as it did before iOS6.  I have also setup a new iPhone 5 and it is working as well.

I do only use smart playlists so cannot confirm if this works for manual playlists.

The full fix that I did is as follows.

    1. Delete the podcast app from my phone.

    2. Shutdown and Restart the phone.

    3. Force quit the Music app as above.

    4. Podcast Playlists now show up in the Music app and all of my podcasts are listed in the order that I had set them up in iTunes.  Syncing and updating of the playlists is also working as before.

I hope this helps some of you.

Like ESPNDeportes wrote, create a Smart Playlist, and set its rule to "Playlist" "is" "<whatever your manual playlist is>" and then sort the podcasts however you want, right-click the name of the new Smart Playlist, and choose "Copy to Play Order" and make sure that in the Podcasts tab for your device, you have checked the name of this playlist. Not very Apple-like, is it?

    Good luck,
    Dan

WoW Apple, why don't you just take away one of my legs while i'm walking too..

First, sorting by any criteria largely defeats the purpose since the manual playlist was created as a manual playlist largely to affect the order which could not be accomplished by a sort.

Second, with iTunes Match enabled, smart playlists based on other playlists are not supported and my smart playlist is removed from my phone even when synced over manually.

No, not very Apple-like at all.   This method doesn't copy the play order from the Playlist to the Smart Playlist, so you have to re-sort your list anyway.  Might as well skip this step and create a "latest" Smart Playlist "Limit to xxx # most recently added", and manually sort them.

Well, enough whining from me.  Still, very disappointing...and cumbersome.  I'll watch this discussion and see if anything new pops up, particularly if somebody finds a way to make regular (not smart) Playlists appear in the iPhone for Podcasts.

    Thanks for all the help.

This is what I do every morning since I made the mistake of upgrading to iOS 6: download Podcasts app, download a bunch of podcast, delete podcasts app, close and restart music app, create playlist. It's an inconvenience, but it can still be done. Downloading and deleting the podcasts app every day is pretty asinine though.

I feel I should restate how my podcast playlists seem to be working.

I havent actually changed anything, and my podcasts seem to be functional after the IOS6 upgrade, but the only thing I don't have is a visible listing of my playlist.

I still have a playlist, in my case, it's cleverly named "podcast playlist"  It's a manually ordered and maintained playlist (not a smart playlist)  edited on my laptop as needed, and it apparently syncs as I am able to play everything I add in order, and in toto.

The only thing that I don't see is a listing in the "Music" app, and therefore, I can't select a podcast in the playlist directly, but if I'm willing to use skip forward, and skip reverse, I can move from selection to selection.  The podcast being played  shows in the "now playing" screen, but again, the list is invisible.

I haven't deleted the podcast app, though I probably eventually will.  Otherwise, all works as long as I can get by without viewing the playlist. which in general, I don't have to.

How are you playing the playlist if you can't see it?

  • 84. Re: When will Podcast app support playlists?

Well, all I can say is that it plays.  The playlist is there by title, though no items are visible in the list view.

When I upgraded, it preserved the currently playing podcast, and when I started playing, it played as normal, and continued playing through to the next podcast.  It also syncs correctly and has continued to do so over the last three days or so.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm not sure how to start it if Music crashes, or if it otherwise loses its place (which it has been prone to do in the old OS), but so far, my "invisible" playlist keeps working.

I suspect that with the workaround suggested by others, and the fact that my playlist continues to work in "stealth" mode, the playlists are preserved and updated in the database, but are visibly disabled in the music app when the podcast app is installed.

Apple still needs to fix this.

I know this is an aside but I have sort of given up getting the playlist thing to work any way that would really be convenient for me.  However, I cannot get my episodes with in a single podcast to play continuously. Is there something in settings I am missing?

I am coming to terms with "smart Playlists" but even when I right click the smart Playlist and select "Copy to Play Order", that doesn't order stick in my iphone music player after a sync using the cable.  Can't figure out why.

If anybody finds an app for Podcasts that does playlist, please post.

    I solved it like so:

Select the podcast in the podcast app. When it opens, the episodes are listed below the bar which includes the podcast's name, the releasers' name etc., select that bar. An option page opens up. Select "Order" (or whatever that option is in English, mine is in Finnish so can't be sure), go down to the last option and select in "Play this podcast" either "Oldest first" or "Newest first". Like this the app knows you're not just listening to an episode, you want to listen to them all. It feels like Apple thinks podcasts have been around for about 5 minutes, it's ridiculous.

Again, sorry if the options are something else on the page but you get the idea.

I have found I can get Siri to play the playlist. I call my playlist "abacus news" so that it alphabatizes to the top of the list (now a moot point) but if I say "play playlist abacus news" Siri finds it and starts playing. The controls appear as expected in the lock screen when double-tapping home. Not ideal, but workable.

That used to be my daily use-case, I would say "Play playlist radio ben" but now it won't find it.

    Are you using iTunes match?
