New iphone 5 say's "no sim" but I have not touched the sim card. The phone was working fine except for terrible battery life, but now unable to make calls access the network.
Any suggestions would help

Try a hard reset.
Press and hold the Wake / Sleep button AND the Home button and keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. It can take 10 or more seconds, ignore the swipe to sleep message.
Tried that a couple of times and still getting the "no sim" message.

The same problem happened on my 2 day old IPhone 5 yesterday! After several hard resets that did not seem to help, I took my SIM card out of the phone and reinstalled and it began working again.
Take the sim out and put it back in.
If this happens a lot, take it to your carrier.
What is the best way to remove the sim?
With the SIM removal tool that came with your iPhone.
And by following the instructions that are very easy to find if you bother to look.
Use a small paper clip and push the little hole on the SIM tray that is located on the side of the phone. Do it carefully.
What's with the bad attitude? I thought this was a friendly place to get helpful information, not some snotty comments about how stupid people are. Why would you write something so lame "if you bother to look"? If you are so put out by my question then why do you even reply? Next time leave your comments to yourself. I hope all your responses are not this ridiculous.. BTW my phone didn't come with any SIM removal tool.
