Neither my iPad2 nor my iPhone 4S will allow me to select albums. I've always been able to do this in the past on both devices. I've stopped getting the Error 1140 but I can't sync my photos.

hey, a friend helped me find the solution .... do you have any slideshows in iPhoto? if so, delete all slideshows. then try your sync again. there is something in the slideshows that corrupts the ability to select albums/events to sync. this worked for me. let me know if it doesn't work as the alternative is to edit the .xml file. i have the instructions for this if you need. good luck ! katie

I saw several reference to slide shows, specifically related to music and proabably related to "ampersands" but I don't have any slide shows in my library, so there's nothing to delete. I think it's a bug that will get cleared up. I hope so anyway.

I'm having the same problem (iPhone 3GS, iOS 6, iPhoto '11, Mountain Lion). No slideshows in my iPhoto library. The option within iTunes to sync selected albums rather than the entire library is just greyed out. Any solutions out there?

I talked to Apple support again and iTunes is not recognizing the ampersand sign, normally found in the .xml of music in the slideshows. Not sure how to resolve if you have no slideshows. They will have to put an update out soon to resolve this.

The same is now happening to me - - but it only started after the upgrades to OS X ver 10.8.2 and iPhoto '11 v 9.4 were done.
Apple Support: Can someone confirm the problem is resolved with the upcoming iTunes 10.8 release?
iPhone 4S with IOS 6.0
iTunes 10.7 (21)
iPhoto 11 ver 9.4 (701.64)

Thanks, identd! Problem solved. Readers of this thread: I would direct you specifically to Riderworks' post from the other thread. It seems that the problem is related to the use of the "&" character in iPhoto's albumdata.xml library. The & in my case was related to a music file I was using as the soundtrack for one of my iPhoto slideshows.
Riderworks explains a straightforward method to identify and solve the problem using two free utilities, iPhoto Library Manager and TextWrangler. Hope others are able to solve the problem this way as well.
