iPhone 5 wifi issues

    I have two iphone5 64 GB, both week 37, Both factory C3, White one works perfect for O2, Vodafone. The black i5 wifi is useless ! I bought them from Brighton after queued for 5 hours Friday morning !

    I'm having the same issue.  32GB black iPhone 5 = 37 week production.  LTE is very fast, but no wi-fi at work or at home, whereas my old droid model worked fine at both locations.  Especially a bummer considering Verizon discontinued unlimited data plan.

    I talked to a rep and opened a ticket, he said most of the issues people have been reporting have had to do with the wireless not working at all, he suggest I take it to the apple store and have them diagnose the issue on their wifi, reset the phone, etc.. Bringing it in today, will update you on status.

    Wifi Droping

     

    Fix: Set your wi-fi HTTP proxy setting to OFF

    (Note: This fixes a host of networking issues.)

     

    Do the following

     

    1. Setting>Wi-Fi><Network Name>

    2. Make sure that all the way at the bottom, HTTP Proxy is set to OFF.

    3. While it should take affect imediately reboot your iPhone6 after exiting settting.

     

    Have seen plenty of users who have their configuration set to use Auto proxy. Will not work with certain networks and some IPS.

     

    If you are not connected to a proxy turn it off, this will solve the problem.

    @shapetables I called Verizon's support line and, although they were unaware of the issue, are shipping me a new phone. I wasn't happy with the $200 temporary charge until I return the original but I went for it. No way to know if the new phone will work.

     

    In the mean time switching to WEP was a successful, temporary work-around for me.

     

    Don't know about the overheating capacitor since I've had the problem manifest itself immediately sometimes and after a significant period of use other times. Also, cycling wifi on and off often temporarily solves the problem. But you're the engineer and it's the best explanation I've heard.

    It is already set to off and just not working.  Its not that it drops off its that it works for 30seconds then stops!  Not sure what to do really?

    A lot of people are suggesting to change a bunch of settings on their router to try and fix the problems.

     

    This shouldn't be. If my router works fine (no security) with every iOS device in my household, my iphone 5 should work just as well. I've done a side by side comparison video using my iphone 4,  iPhone 5, and iPad 1. iPhone 5 fails while the others work flawlessly and see at least 11mbps. The iPhone 5 gets .6 to 2.8 when not behaving properly.

     

    BUT, a few minutes later a separate test yields 14.3mbps with iPhone 5. So the problem is definitely there, just intermittent.

    My http proxy has been off from the beginning. That may solve some problems but it's not related to this one.

    I called Apple UK support today concerning my iPhone 5 64GB, mine came directly from Apple store SIM free.

     

    After waiting half an hour on hold they put me through to a senior advisor who asked me to try a few things first was to setup a new user profile on my Mac, then start iTunes and plug in the phone and hit restore so it would download the iOS6 again, they then asked me to activate the phone as a new phone which i went through the motions and problem still the same.

     

    The advisor then said he would have to escalate the issue higher to an Apple Hardware technician but this would take anywhere between 2 - 3 days.

     

    He said they may ask me to adjust my router at home but also asked if I had tried it on another WPA Wireless network of which I did at work today and still same problem.

     

    I explained my iPhone 4S and iPad 3 both worked and they are iOS6 so clearly its a problem with iPhone 5 but he didnt seem to really listen to that and kept on about escalating it to Apple Hardware technician.

     

    So essentially my phone is only working on unsecure wireless or WEP, and to be honest after spending 699 pounds I am pretty annoyed over the whole affair.

     

    It just seems that Apple isnt willing to admit that there is something not right with these phones or at least a bad batch.

     

    So I now wait for further news from Apple.

    Just set the http settings from off to auto and it all works fine!!.  Maybe that will solve the problem for some of you?

    Keep in mind, Apple created slightly different builds of iOS for each device, so we can't completely rule out iOS 6. They may just be a code problem in the iPhone 5 build. Apple engineers are on it, so we'll just have to wait and see.

    I'm having a problem on my work WiFi with WPA2 enabled, but just visited Starbucks to try it on the AT&T WiFi there, which does not use WPA2 and had the same problems.  It's extremely slow.
