I must be an anomaly. I'm not having any issues with maps.

I remember Steve Jobs commenting in an interview in 90s, saying "We don't ship junk (OS) like others". I wonder what he'd have said on iOS6.

I guess he would say, "We learned we have a base who will take whatever we dish out to them and pretend it's great and call legitimate complainers 'haters' so let's roll it out. They'll eat it up regardless."

Which doesn't mean there isn't an issue. Have you not seen the laughable satellite images, the drunken 'flyover' mess, the lack of streetview, the mis-placed towns?

The company is still not responding to so many thousands of complaints from its customers - no apology, no solution, no nothing. We customers should now start posting our angst on every public forum that matters on the Web. This attitude from Apple is inexcusable. Here is a true statement that I posted on wired.com -

"I upgraded my iPhone4 to IOS6 and after using the maps, have decided to postpone the purchase of my iPhone5 until there is one that has a decent maps application that works outside of the USA. A Google Maps app maybe.

How can a company be so arrogant, expecting us customers to crowd source map data for them for the next few years while they play catchup to Google? In the meanwhile, we lose time and money because there are no map options that work well outside the USA except Google Maps, and Apple will not even give us the option of reverting to the old map app that worked! The new app can't find any place, can't route anything  and has no public transport either. It is completely useless outside the USA as its map data is either absent or wrong.

I advice my friends now that until there is a working, usable Map application on IOS6, either from Apple (with Google Maps Data) or from Google, don't upgrade to IOS6. It's a one way street. And don't buy the iPhone 5 either until then."

I don't think, in practical terms, that Apple can catch up to Google with this. Google has thousands of employees working on this, and they have a 10 year head start. We are talking about mapping every street in the whole world!

In a few years, if Apple gets to the current Google map level Google will have gone way beyond that.

Apple should just think of their customers and make nice with Google.

With Apple's typical style of responding to user complaints in the past, we can hardly expect any Apple Authority coming out in the open, accepting the debacle that Maps is, and making any clear statement to the thousands of grieved customers.

If they did not have readiness to launch in other countries, they should have kept the old GMAPs alive for some time. No one can expect that upgrading to a newer version will downgrade the performance of existing apps.

Hey everybody, just download the MapQuest app. It works better than Google Maps ever did on the iPhone, actually it works great. You get accuracy, voice turn-by-turn nav, and its free. It's not like there isn't an opption out there.

Just tried the MapQuest app. It's just as useless at the Apple maps app here in Tokyo. All the block numbers are missing. That's like leaving out street names in the U.S. Just empty grids.

The issue is that Apple downgraded a user feature that worked fine. They should just make nice with Google (like the Google CEO said today) and provide the Google apps service again. The Google CEO said it was up to Apple.

Users don't care about the Apple/Google in-fighting. We don't want Apple to "beat" Google, or vice-versa.

We just want our working maps app back again!

For India Users, try Maps+. It's showing directions and locations, with some more features which are free. Unrestricted version costs $2.99. But you can try before buying.

google has confirmed that there is no google maps app in the works for ios6, and that google maps app for ios6 has not been submitted to itunes

Apple refused to relicense google maps, and since android has top marketshare for mobile smartphones, they dont care about the lost revenue from ios6 users. they actually are enjoying watching their competitor squirm over subpar maps.

get used to apple maps, use the browser version of google maps, or get an android 4.1 galaxy s III

Considering Google Maps mobile application use was over 50% of their total coming from iOS I don't think it's as smart as you make it seem.
