The projector is an Optoma HD200X which I want to connect to the MBA via a displayport to HDMI adaptor.

The displayport to HDMI adaptor works, as I've used it to connect the MBA to a TV screen.  Also, the HMDI input to the projector works, as I've connected a PS3 to it.

However, when I connect the MBA to the projector, it doesn't detect it at all, and the projector does not detect any input.  I'm using 10.7.5, and the Macbook Air is a late 2010 model.

Thanks for any help.

I've had the issue of slow detection of projectors.  Sometimes the sequence of connecting makes a difference.

Try to set everything else up first, and hold connecting the adapter to the MBA for the last thing.

i.e. turn on projector, connect the HDMI cable to the adapter, connect the cable to the projector, select HDMI on the projector.

Once everything else is set up, THEN connect the adapter to the Thunderbolt/mini display port.

See if that sequence will work.

Thanks.  I tried that, but it didn't work.

I've tried the projector with my girlfriend's 11" 2012 MacBook Air, and it works straight away.  She's running OS X 10.7.4, whereas I've tried and failed to connect my MBA to the projector on both 10.7.4 and 10.7.5.

Apple was aware of this issue. On the Macbook Air mid-2012 and Macbook Pro 13" mid-2012, the issue was resolved (or was intended to resolve) that issue. However, it doesn't look like they're aware that older Macbook Airs are affected. I would consider contacting Applecare just so they're aware of it.
