After a call to apple care, I was told to go to my store and have the phone replaced.
Made my appointment and explained I have both the battery drain issue and wifi issue. They concentrated on the battery issue only but swapped my phone with a replacement.
I am STILL having wifi AND battery issues so it must be a software related issue and hopefully apple updates the software and fixes this.
My battery from the replacement phone was at 80% at 11am. It's now 3:12pm and the battery is 19%!!
Also, my wifi works fast - WHEN IT DOESN'T GET DISCONNECTED. Once I put the device to sleep it drops the wifi and I have to go back into settings and select my network again.
This needs to be resolved soon.

There is a known WiFi issue with iOS 6. It has to do with access points using WPA2/AES encryption. Apple is aware of it and is attempting to narrow down the cause.
Some have speculated that there was a bad batch of iPhones sent out from the China factory. Simply bring the device to the store and have them replace it.

I know this is going to seem difficult for many who are having wifi problems, but............ Set the phone up and simply use it for a couple of days, without restoring, resetting, or playing with settings....... I had a devel if a time with wifi, both at home and at the office, after receiving and setting up the phone Friday. However, by Sunday, all problems had disappeared and the phone is operating perfectly now.
I have iCloud backup on and Wifi Sync on. I'm convinced that the phone was trying to transfer the initial backup and sync info over wifi, eating up all of it's internal resources during that first day and my playing with settings simply prolonged that process, making it start over every time I reset something!
Now, I'm a happy boy, with no issues and much better battery life than I had with the 4s..........
I've posted a couple of times already but just an update really of what I'm thinking now. I clearly don't seem to be in the same situation as some of you guys out there. I thought I was having issues as occasionally my phone drops wifi or I have to restat apps. Compared to some of you I now consider my self lucky. I've done speed test after speed test and I'm getting full speed on my phone although one point to note is that the download is not quite as smooth as my iPad but competes in the same time. I would say that 98%of the time the wifi works well and to speed (bearing in mind I live very rural and can only get 1.3mb) the other 2% is pages not loading and having to restart apps, after which it works perfectly again.
I will just hold of for the time being and see what happens over the coming days. I'm hoping it is just software.

I've had both and iPad and iPhone replaced in the past and they get you to erase the data yourself then you know it's done. Then you can download you iCloud data using their wifi or take it home and do it. Pretty smooth process. That's my experience anyway.
Installed my new iphone 5 yesterday via backup from itunes (previously 4s). Wifi in the office (identification byMAC) worked fine, no issues. At home wifi (WPA 2 protected) connected, but really slow, whereas ipad (still on OS 5) worked fine. Got on this forum, figured out that I am not the only one having the issue.
Had long calls with the online store this morning and they finally agreed to replace the phone over the next couple of days. Thereafter, our IT guy showed up to change the company Outlook sync from ActiveSync to MobileIron, because of a changed policy in our company.
Just came home and tried out the wifi connection again (did not touch the router settings at all). Funny enough the wifi issue seems to have disappeared. I am not an expert, but the only thing that has changed since yesterday is the removal of ActiveSync from the handset and now it seems to work. Could it be that the issue was caused by an OS 6/ActiveSync problem?
Is anyone having issues with only accessing unsecured public wifi networks like attwifi at Starbucks or McDonald's? The wifi at work and at home work just fine. Its when I am about, I notice that it will let me log in and I will have full wifi status bars but when I go to a page or app that uses the internet, it keeps loading and the page won't load. I tried a speedtest and nothing. It's not picking anything up. I tried selecting "Auto" in the wifi settings and that does not work. Any help/ideas? Thanks.
So has Apple started to admit to an issue? Or are they all like the Apple rep I had on the phone saying she had not heard of any WIFI issues. Is a new iPhone 5 the only solution? I suggested she go to Google to search on IPHONE 5 WIFI ISSUES and see what comes up.....

I do. But I also had it with the 4s. There system is not very good for the iPhone. It has an agreement clause at the beginning where you are supposed to agree to the terms and continue. That screen would often times not show up and get lost somewhere and the phone would not get past it. When the screen didn't appear, I had no Internet.
Its interesting because the local Starbucks that I go to that has attwifi doesn't have that welcome screen. It goes straight to wireless with no problems (that was with my 4S, now with the 5) It doesn't work. Hopefully it was their wifi that was down or something and its not a problem with the phone itself.
hey guys... my problem is in regards to the lack of continuous wifi when using AES encryption:
so i started having this issue right away on friday when i tried to start up the phone for the first time. i didnt have a backup to restore from, so it was right away a fresh phone. thanks to you guys, i eventually narrowed it down to this particular issue, and went to the apple store to see the genius. they replaced the phone... but that phone had the same issues with AES encryption. all other encryption seems to work fine. so i returned to the apple store, and got a second replacement. that one also is having the same issue with AES encryption!
the genius that gave me the second replacement told me that applecare was aware of the issue and the engineers were working on figuring out the issue, but could not see anything conclusive at the time. Theories ranged from certain models of serial numbers to specific wireless routers being the source of the problem. I was instructed to call Applecare and tell them my issue, so that they can compile more data to lead them to the source of the problem. So you should all do that too.
The applecare person, after i explained all my previous steps in detail, eventually managed to find a thread from her supervisor regarding the work the engineers were doing, but did not have any definite conclusive evidence yet, nor any timeline on when a solution would be found. We decided to hold onto this faulty phone for now, but have them call me back in a week with whatever information the engineers may have discovered. Apparently the more people that have this problem reported to applecare, the quicker they will work to find a solution.
In the meantime i have downgraded my home wireless network to TKIP encryption, which temporarily solves the problem, but applecare even mentions on its support faq that TKIP is not as reliable as AES and should be avoided, which the applecare specialist agreed with. Of course this does not fix any issues i may have with other wifi routers set to AES encryption that i cannot access to change the settings. They will continue to monitor the issue so that we can determine a proper course of action and go back to AES, hopefully by the time they call me back next week.

I thought it was just the opposite , I went in and changed to aes , did the renew lease option and everything was solved. Let me correct that, my links us has to be unplugged every time you change the settings, so after a reboot everything was fixed. Even went to McDonald's to double test it.
Hope it stays that way.
