Hi Tom ,well ,when doing a sych the screen(on I Tunes) shows an over capacity in 'other (yellow) 'of 14.2 GB and the IPad will not download anything from ITunes or Cloud. This happened when IOS 6 update took place after which all I had on there has disappeared (movies, podcasts,tv progs, downloaded music from the cloud),  I could have pushed the wrong buttons or something ? Looked to completely reset on the pad but need a password which I dont have. Thanks Ray

I installed iOS6 pretty much the day it became available.  And today, out of nowhere, I get this "Over Capacity" warning when I tried to sync my iPad 3:

Yet, the iPad itself shows that I still have 6.4 GB available.  That is really weird!  I hope someone can find a solution.

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?

    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

     Cheers, Tom

The Capacity Bar updates in real-time as you modify your sync selections, even before clicking the “Apply” button. This allows you to quickly and easily see if you will have sufficient capacity on your device for your selections. An Over Capacity warning is also displayed when you exceed your device’s capacity, allowing you to deselect items before syncing rather than waiting until the end of the sync only to discover that not everything fits, a great change that should reduce error messages.

Well, my problem is solved.  I noticed that when I tried to sync my iPhone 5, I had the same "Over Capacity" issue.  So I thought perhaps it's iTunes that's off kilter.  So I quit iTunes, re-opened it, and waddaya know?  My iPad status now shows what it's supposed to show! I'm not sure if that will work for everybody else who had the same problem, but it worked for me.  Thanks for your input.

    Thanks Daniel Lacroix,
Quitting iTunes and reopening it solved the problem!

    (I had a "34 GB overcapacity"...***)

Texas Mac Man, I believe you solved my problem with over capacity. I swiped left on multiple copies of large audiobooks and reduced Music from 99GB+ to around 31GB. The next question is why did this happen and how do I change my settings to keep it from occurring again. Thanks for a great tip. Mike in Dallas
