Sep 25, 2012 8:22 AM in response to Russ Hby mzcarla62,I'm sorry but I'm really new to this. I was doing everything at default and it worked the first time. How do I trash preferences?

Sep 25, 2012 8:35 AM in response to mzcarla62by Russ H,Follow the link in my preceding post and download that tool to trash preferences. Delete project render files from within FCP, selecting your project and going to the File drop down menu.
Good luck.

Sep 26, 2012 3:33 AM in response to mzcarla62by mzcarla62,I downloaded the tool and trashed preferences and deleted project render files. It still would not allow me to burn the project to a dvd. I'm thinking it's something simple. Do I need to resave it or export it first? With the project selected, I am going to Share>Burn DVD. Like I mentioned earlier, I am waiting for the DVD to be recognized in Finder. It did allow me to export it, then burn it to a dvd in finder. I think it is in .mov format though. Is that ok? I need this to be able to be played in Macs and in PCs.

Sounds like you made a data DVD, not a video DVD that will play in a DVD player or in a computer optical drive. (And I had read your initial post to mean that your disk was recognized in the Finder.)
If you do want a video DVD, then use Share>Burn DVD. If you want a data DVD, export a movie…using say, the Mac & PC setting in Apple Devices and then burn it in the Finder.
But I'm getting ahead of myself…which kind of DVD do you want?

Sep 26, 2012 6:14 AM in response to Russ Hby mzcarla62,Originally, I did the Share>Burn to make a video that is accessible in all computers. That one worked. I was trying to do the same thing, hadn't changed a setting or anything, and kept getting the error message that the burn attempt failed. I may have discovered what was wrong. I had updated to 10.8.2 but had not restarted the computer since the update was installed. (thought I had but I was wrong). Anyway, after restarting, I went to Share>Burn and it is working just fine. I knew it had to be something that I was doing/not doing on my part. Thank you for all of your suggestions, and now I have that app in case I need to trash preferences in the future.
Have a wonderful day!
