You could try using your iBook as a FireWire drive to access your content. It would require a FireFire 400 to 800 lead, which will go between your iBook and MacBook This is called FireFire Target Disk Mode

The only other way would be to remove the iBook's Hard Drive and place it into an external casing, allowing the drive to become an external USB drive.
They can be ordered from, places like Amazon or any good electronic retailer.

Sep 26, 2012 8:20 AMby Dilly445,Thanks, I spoke to apple support on the phone. she said to restart and quickly after hold the 't' key down at which point I get a blue screen with yellow circle with two equals signs (=) and something else can't remember and to get my ethernet cable and migrat what I want onto the new mac. This is what you're saying, so where did I put my lead???????

Target Disk Mode.
Well if you was going do so by FireWire then you would put your FireWire lead into the FireWire port in your MacBook and the other end into your iBook. You will need a convertor as the MacBook uses a different FireWire port to the iBook.
Not sure about using Ethernet as a target disk mode. I think what the telephone support is telling you is Migration Assistant http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889

If so, that is the FireWire Target Disk Mode symbol, and it will allow you to use the iBook as an external hard drive for the MacBook Pro.
Which kind of FireWire cable you need depends on which model MacBook Pro you have. You can choose from this list:

Some older models of MacBook Pros had the same FireWire 400 ports that you find on the iBook. Newer models have FireWire 800 ports, so the type of cable you need to connect the two Macs can vary according to the FireWire port(s) on the MacBook Pro.
