Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

    Hi jkecskes.

It appears you have the same Modem Firmware, looks like you could be in the same position as myself

    Go to Settings, General, About

Scroll down till you see Modem Firmware

IF Modem Firmware is less than is 04.12.02 then you have a problem like myself and many others

The modem firmware thing maybe spot on... I have the wifi Off issue with following config:

    Version: 6.0 (10A403)

    Model: MC676LL

    Modem Firmware: 3.0.04

This problem really ***** and I'm losing faith in Apple and they are losing their edge without acknowledging this problem. Steve Jobs wouldn't have handled this the same way!

    Hi,

I have been reading these posts. I have not as yet updated to IOS 6, but I am thinking about it.

I checked the modem firmware of both my ipad 2 and iphone 4s. They are 04.12.01 and 2.0.12 resp.

So lower as the ones mentioned before.

How do I update the modem firmware? Or does the update come along with the update to ios 6?

I like to check this out before I update, I do not want to get the same problems I have been reading about.

I have already enough problems on my iMac after updating from Lion to ML.

Seems like all the Apple updates recently are causing problems. Does not give me much confidence in Apple right now.

    NEWSFLASH NEWSFLASH

My problem has been solved (fingers crossed, forever)

OK, some of you may have already tried this stuff, however, you MUST do this in a specific sequence for it to work.

    Turn off your router

Go to your ipad and RESET NETWORK SETTINGS (for dummies like me who don't know how to do it... go to SETTINGS - GENERAL - RESET - RESET NETWORK SETTINGS.)

Once the ipad comes back on.  Turn the router on.  Go and turn on your wifi again and it will find the right settings.

Well mine did and I can now do everything I could not do since Sunday.

I am simply writing in despair as far as I have the problem with 4S upgraded to iOS6 and Netgear router. Our IT don't want to degrade it; why they should? Everything else was tested - no Wi-Fi connection!

Apple has no choice but PROVIDE OFFICIAL DOWNGRADE TO 5!

JWROBO- Thank you for reposting this.  I visited Netgear's site and grudgingly rolled my firmware back to the version you mentioned, and it works now.  My iPhone's modem firmware version is 3.0.04, so you all may be on to something as far as the device modem firmware version being part of the problem.

It's ridiculous that I have to downgrade my modem to 5 year old firmware in order for my iPhone 4s (which has worked fine up until ioS 6) to be able to connect to my home network.  Hopefuly Apple is paying attention to this thread and will include a fix in 6.0.1 that will make ioS 6 play nice with Netgear routers from this decade.

    Peter,

I would wait. I made the mistake of updating to IOS6 when I got the notice the other day. Big Wifi connection problems with my IPAD 3. I know how to get around the problem now but I have to perform the "get around" everytime I connect to a different network.

I would assume Apple will release a patch soon.

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 6, the modem firmware version is 1.00.16, and so far I have been able to connect to 2 Wi-Fi routers with no problem. One router is a four-year-old Netgear. The other router is a six-month-old Netgear. I have not been able to find my modem firmware version in the about section of my iPad three. It is not there. I have not updated that iPad to iOS 6 after reading these posts. Just wanted to let people know that a lower modem firmware version as the problem does not apply in my case.

It's not just netgear routers - my DLINK is giving trouble too, with an iPhone 4.

Downgrading and rebooting the entire world's wireless infrastructure is NOT a solution.

I've seen reports on here of people buying new routers in order to work around Apple's failure.  I hope they send them the bill.

WE NEED APPLE TO RESPOND NOW.  EITHER GIVE US A FIX OR A DOWNGRADE PATH TO 5.1.1.
