    You can use the remote app to 'type search' when using the ATV YouTube client as well

    I'm having a similar issues. I actually got AirPlay working properly after restarting my AppleTV 2 and iPad 2. I was using the ABC iView app to watch a TV show. After it started to work, approx 5 min of AirPlay time, the show I was watching restarted by itself but now only with audio and no video. I'm not blaming the new updates on either device (iPad 2 or Apple TV 2), but I've never really had any problems like this before. When trying to restart the show again, the Apple TV disappeared for the Airplay list on my iPad. Both devices still had wifi and Internet access, so not sure what's happening???

    I don't know what planet Apple are on lately! Some of their decisions are truly mind-boggling!

    Their unofficial mantra of "it just works" is utter crap now...arrogant stupid idiotic company!

    @foxcub 6,

    When you say "it works fine", are you sure you're talking about AirPlay (vs. mirroring?)  Mirroring works fine for us too.  But AirPlay definitely does not.  At least not on our iPad or our iPhone 5s - all we get is sound.  I just checked my phone and there's no new YouTube app, so I'm pretty sure I have the latest (v. 1.0.1.3063).

    Yes, Apple decided to remove the native app. But the airplay issue is with the 3rd party app, which has nothing to do with them.

    @vazandrew,

    The "airplay issue" is that we can no longer airplay from YouTube to Apple TV.  Apple created the issue by removing this feature/app from iOS.  Sure, the Google "replacement" app is unable to do AirPlay, but that's beside the point.  Apple should re-instate the native app or provide an equivalent alternative for customers who have come to depend on this feature!  I re-iterate: Apple is essentially stealing from me: they sold me on Apple TV by telling me that I could "airplay" YouTube from any of my iOS devices to this $99 box.  And now after I bought the device, they took away the feature!  ***?  I realize that I can still mirror or use a third-party app (Jasmine), but that's entirely besides the point! (besides, these workarounds don't work as well as the native YouTube app did!)

    I personally hated the native app and found it much easier to navigate to the ATV client/search using the remote app.

    If you feel strongly about it the only thing to do is provide feedback.

    I have a similar issue: I can't play music videos purchased on iTunes from the Videos app on my iPhone 5 through Airplay to my Apple TV (each device is running the latest version of iOS).

    I started having mirroring problems with Apple TV 3rd gen yesterday after they updated the Apple TV software. Just discovered by fooling around with settings that now you have to go into settings>AirPlay, set airplay to on AND SET ONSCREEN CODE ON, then when you use mirroring for the first time you get an onscreen code on the tv screen that then must be entered on iOS device EACH TIME! you turn on mirroring. Aargh! Why, Apple, why? So if you have iOS 6 installed, that's the deal. I would certainly like know the rationale behind this. It's extremely annoying, especially since its not listed in the "what's new" screen on the tv/apple tv. So far I've tested this on my iPad 3 and iPhone 4S and yes, I had to enter a different code each time, even if I hadn't changed from one device to another.

    I just checked the Apple TV support site and found thi under "whats new" with Airplay 5.1 - note that it doesn't say the code is required, but for me that's the only way I could get mirroring to work again, and BTW, had no problem with iOS 6 mirroring until the Apple TV update yesterday:

    AirPlay

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4448

    AirPlay     Send audio content from Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices (including AirPort Express and other Apple TVs). Also includes the ability to require an onscreen code to use AirPlay with your Apple TV.

    There are some updates from my 'iHouse' too:

    Just got my shiny new iPhone 5 and guess what - Mirroring, AirPlay via Jasmine.app, AirPlay via FacBook.app and similar apps works just fine. Except for youtube.app. Ok, thats nothing new.

    But yesterday, i had my friend for dinner, and he wanted to show me video from his iPhone 4S and via _NONE_ app, nor mirroring worked for him. I was shocked. Everytime he was trying to do somehting, even just simply turning on Mirroring (via double click Home button) some weird Error message popped on screen. Same was with trying to stream content.

    I was emberassed and shocked, since my wife has same iPhone 4S and her works as good as mine iPhone 5 except for the YouTube.app, as we all know it.

    Your friends Airplay did not work because probably you did not put his Apple ID and password into your ATV prior to trying Airplay. The iOS and ATV link requires Apple ID match as well.

    FYI, my iPhone 5 and my wife's 4S are working perfectly well with Airplay. We are able to use both IDs on the same ATV thank to the new software update which let us add more than one account to ATV. The issue with Youtube is I think Google problem. Google needs to fix their app but you can use Jasmine and also the inbuilt Youtube pp in ATV - they both work like charm.
