Try this. Unhook from the net. Change date (year) to 2011 and try to install the downloaded update. I hope the update is not broken/corrupted since its the usual issue.

Opps wait. are you downgrading? "trying to update to 10.7.5 from 10.7.6". Also I checked that the highest update for now is 10.7.5 and no 10.7.6. please post the link here for the 10.7.6 if ever you found it.

Sorry, I meant 10.7.4 (not 10.7.6).
As for you suggestion, if I disconnect from the internet I won't be able to download the update. Am I missing something?

Nope. Disregard the one above. Please redownload the package again on the site. the package seems to be corrupted. In anycase that you have downloaded the package and still wont work open Disk Utility. Click the Disk Utility Name Menu and Clickon Preferences. Uncheck "Verify cheksums" and install again. Dont forget to reenable this after the installation.

I unchecked the "verify checksums" in Disk Utility and was able to mount the DMG file but when I tried to install it failed. Here's the exact message:
The installation failed.
The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

The pkg that you downloded seems to be corrupted. Is your network connection ok? Please download another copy. Make sure to check the Verify checksums again on the Disk Utility.

Thanks for all your help Paldeng. I'm thinking it's my network/modem because I brought my computer to work and was able to update via the Software Update without a problem.
Now I have to figure out what to do to fix my network problem. It's quite frustrating because I'm getting errors in itunes when I try to update apps as well as problems updating apps on my iPhone and iPad. Hope I can sort it out.
