Q: iTunes Match "removed" songs

Hi, I'm new to iTunes Match and am happy with it so far, but I have a question. Our music collection is in iTunes on my laptop. I iTunes Matched it and most of the music has been matched and uploaded. Some songs are ineligible, but I've read some of the work arounds, so I'm ok with it. I put an iCloud Status column in itunes and noticed some song were removed. I looked it up and from what I can understand, these songs were removed from the cloud by an IOS device. Is this correct? My confusion is, I turned on iTunes Match and haven'y done anything except play music. It's still uploading songs and I'm just letting it do it's thing. What exactly are removed songs? How do they get removed and can I put them back in?

You may want to read this - iTunes Match: Understanding the iCloud Status icons

Simply playing the song will not remove it. As far as I know, the only way to remove a song from the cloud is to delete it in iTunes (either Mac or PC).

When you delete from iTunes, it will do one of two things.

    1. If the song isn't actually on that computer, it will offer to delete from iCloud:

    2. If the song file is both on the Mac (or PC) and in the cloud, iTunes offers to delete the local file and adds a check box if you  want to delete from the cloud too:

So my guess is that you signed into iTunes Match from two different computers, then on the one that didn't actually have the songs on it, someone tried to "clean up" all those extra songs that they didn't actually want to listen to - not realizing that they were deleting them from the cloud, not the computer.

    Maybe?

Anyway, you can right-click (or control-click) on the songs that are marked "removed", and choose "add to iCloud" to put them back on the cloud.

Thanks! I don't know what happened, but at least I can add them, back in. Now about those ineligible songs...
