I'm havering this same issue. It seemed to start right after I upgrade my ATV. I contacted Hulu support although I haven't heard back from them yet.
I have the same router, Motorola SBG6580, with no switch.

I have the same issue-- apparently it is a problem only on ethernet cable. On ethernet, I stream succesfuly on Netflix, then switch to Hulu; Hulu loads to browse, shows all queues but doesn't stream the content. I change to wi-fi and Hulu works fine.
Also, I note PS3 updated Hulu (GUI) and works fine on same network ethernet. Go figure. But still *** is going on with the ATV Hulu app?

I'm having the same problem and, interestingly enough, I have the same router.
I unplugged the ethernet and connected through wi-fi and it's working again. I also had a problem initially connecting to netflix, but fixed that one by logging out of netflix then logging back in.

I too am having this same issue. I did NOT update our second APTV so, it is for certain an issue with the latest update. Sounds to me like the restrictions placed on the ethernet connection in the firmware upgrade are not allowing the needed bandwidth for the Hulu HD content, or content in general to pass through.
Heres hoping they hurry up and fix it, it's near impossible to downgrade once firmware has been changed.

I was experiencing the same Huluplus access problem (i.e. msg: network connection error - try again later) right after I upgraded my ATV. Huluplus was working on my Sony Bravia LED TV without a problem and it's connected to the same network.
Following the discussion replies I unplugged the ethernet cable and used the wireless connection and now Huluplus is working on the ATV without a problem.

Thanks to everyone, the WIFI usage is definitely the key across the board for this problem. What a silly problem: works with WIFI but not with Ethernet? Tsk Tsk...

It appears that this issue is related to specific network/Internet configurations. If you are experiencing this issue (some features work over WiFi but not Ethernet) after updating to Apple TV version 5.1, please send me <firstname.lastname@example.org> an email with this information:
1. What is the manufacturer, model number and firmware version (if possible) of your Ethernet router?
2. What is the manufacturer, model number and firmware version (if possible) of your WiFi router? (if it is different)
3. What is your Internet service provider?
4. Where are you located geographically? (what city?)
5. What Internet features do work over Ethernet?
6. What Internet features do not work over Ethernet?
7. Does it read "Activation Failed" at the bottom right in Settings > General > About?
Please make the subject line of your email be "Some features work over WiFi but not Ethernet".

I have the same issue ONLY with Hulu Plus and not Netflix or other streaming prodcts on the Apple TV v3. This only happneded after the 5.1 upgrade and worked very well prior to the upgarde. I only use Ethernet at the house for this do to the slowness of older WiFi routers. I guess I will have to wait until Apple finds a solution and provides an update. I may look online on how to downgrade the box as this service I pay for is now useless. I would think the opposite would happen. Ethernet provides a much more stable stream of data over Wireless.

Any updates on this issue? I've sent you my answers to your questions. I'm curious how many such replies you've gotten.
My Apple TV is now working great using Wi-Fi. But I have the luxury of having it right next to my wireless router so the Apple TV has a great wireless signal. Many functions remain broken when I connect the Apple TV directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.

Same issue...wifi fixed the problem. I hope there is a long term fix in place.

I'm on wifi and always have been. This issue happens randomly with me. Sometimes it will play one show but then not another. Just ran into the error now and tried to play it a few times. I waited about 5 mins and tried again then it worked.

Recent Apple TV update has fixed wifi issue. However iTunes 11 has now broken streaming to the Apple TV. Ugh. Test better apple.
