Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

    Hey Everyone,

I have an iphone 4s when I upgraded to the iOs 6 my wifi greyed out and was unable to connect at all. I tried everything, rebooted, did the whole Airplane mode. After reading several threads and discussions I went to the apple store made an appointment at the genius bar. They rebooted my phone and shortly after turning on the screen showed to connect to itunes. Upon seeing this I was told I had bad hardware and was given a new iphone. I backed up my phone the night before in case this happened and a whole wipeout had to be made. Luckily I had apple care so I didn't pay a thing. I hope this helps could simply be bad hardware like in my case.

I don't think thousands of people suddenly have hardware problem just after Ios 6 update....it may be just your device or applecare employee just didn't care to fix, its easy for them to just replace.

I no longer have AppleCare for my products and they assisted me. Obviously, because it's an IOS6 issue, not an iPad 2 specific issue.

Sorry, there are no issues related to iOS6 and Wifi.

If you are connecting to WIFI.

    Go into Settings>Wifi><Network>

Turn off HTTP Proxy unless you are using one. If you are talk to your network admin to get the settings.

When doing a speed test, that just tells you how fast your ISP connection is, if it is not what your signed up for  then call them.

If your DNS server is not working, call your ISP, consider using GOOGLES or a specialized DNS provider. Your service provider DNS issues should be directed at them.

I think you're a bit behnid the times for making that comment

its become established there is an issue already

I have plastered the problem all over Apples Various forums and also logged a BUG Report

    Go to Settings, General, About

Scroll down till you see Modem Firmware

Reply Back with your Modem Firmware

    Modem Firmware: 04.12.02

IF your Modem Firmware is lower than the above on Iphone 4S, this is why your WiFi isnt authenticating.

The problem is already hitting CNET and other Tech websites.

I have 5 staff members of mine personally, all have iphone 4s, all updated to IOS6 and all connecting to my WiFi at the office. Some work and some done.

The only difference i have discovered by comparing all these phones is the Modem Firmware difference as per above comment.

Some shops over seas have already begun to swap / replace phones, however Australian users at this point dont seem so lucky. Only if you have Iphone 5, you could be fortunate to get a new replacement.

I couldn't change any of the setting like DNS or Http proxy. They will just changed back to whatever set after connecting. It could be an issue of updating the iOS 6 thru wifi connection. Many people just do the upgrading direct from their device using wifi connection which could result in glitches or files incomplete. After they revert to factory setting thru USB cable connection to a pc or laptop with LAN connection or direct modem connection and using iTunes it works perfectly. Try this and hope it works for u too.

Yes. I just updated ipad2 to IOS6 and immediately began having issues with wifi.  Wifi connection will work for awhile, then I lose ability to connect.  If I shut down iPad completely, then reboot, then connection is restored, for a time.

Never had this issue until IOS6. Wish I had NOT updated!

You would think Apple would stop making the ios 6 upgrade available based on all of the documented issues since it's release.  At lease a warning.  But no.  Only silence.  Shame on you Apple.

    Nope,

    Wifi is not an issue.

If you are connecting to a Wifi Network just turn off HTTP Proxy becuase you are not using it. The Auto Feature will try to connect to the internet. Best thing to do is turn off what you are not using, after all, not using proxy why is it on?

    DNS- Contact your provider.

    Speed- Contact your provider.

You may want to look at your network configurations. The Modem firmware is different across devices, not an issue. What modem firmware do you claim that is for which device?

In terms of version issue people are stating here, that is the point, Apple controls the Hardware and Software, so between devices you should have the same version even if the carrier is different.

Turn off HTTP Proxy, solve your problem if you have one.

For DNS, Provider issues, bad router configurations, this is not the best place to get help.

    Tried HTTP Proxy Off, Auto

DNS - is Fine on network

Speed - is Fine on network

    Iphone 4s

    My Modem Firmware: 3.0.04

    IOS6

    Doesnt work

MY staff that have Iphone 4s

    Modem Firmware:  04.12.02

    IOS6

    DOES work

drStrangeP0rk : There is a IT University guy floating around here who looks after the Universities WiFi. He has a point to not plan on changing 100 WAP's firmware on these devices manually just on a chance it works.

My Iphone 4s works fine at home with my ISP's router that IINET provided me

My Iphone 4s works fine connecting to a Belkin WAP i have in my warehouse

My Iphone 4s DOESNT work connecting to my Netgear WG102 with firmware 5.0 as the latest in two of my office sites. Im not prepared at this point to DOWNGRADE firmware thats 5 years older on a hunch that it might work and knock out my staff members WiFi

Upgrading IOS6 on Ipgone 4s doesnt upgrade the Modem Firmware from what i have seen so far

This problem occured ever since the UPGRADE from IOS5 to IOS6
