Q: iTunes will not update!

I haven't updated my iTunes in some time but went to download and install the 10.6.3 update a few days ago and am unable to do so. I receive no error message; when opening iTunes, the usual dialog box appears saying that there is a new version of iTunes available. I click "Download iTunes", the box disappears, but nothing happens. Sometimes, I can see a progress bar that reads "Accessing iTunes Store" very briefly but it disappears as well and does not appear every time I try to download the update.

I have seen many others with the same problem but no solutions and I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall iTunes as I have seen many others with the same problem completely unable to use iTunes after doing so.

Please help!

I took my pc into work & was able to successfully download itunes & update to ios6 there.  It appears its our home router blocking something & causing the 'invalid signature' message.  We have a new router on order.  Hope that solves the future itunes and our other download problems.  Who knew?

I've seen weirder things happen because of a router. I'm currently stuck with my ISP's setup, I miss the old setup I had. Where I could control everything in the router, with this one, I have some of the most weird errors pop up, like the one day, the wireless stopped working, even though the wired connections worked, and the wireless light was acting like it was transmitting, but it needed a reboot. Some of them are just f**ked up.

Router wireless connection working but not connected to the internet happens. If that happens again try this

Start > Run > type CMD to get a DOS command prompt and type in

    netsh int ip reset rest.log

    then hit return, then

    netsh winsock reset catalog

Hit return. This should reset winsock that my have got corrupted.

    Reboot machine.

Hope this may help in the future.

Havin the same issue here on windows 7. Can't get to the iTunes Store in iTunes, which means can't update, can't play the apple radio stations (which also won't work if the others don't), can't establish a connection to anything Internet related through iTunes, like most of you.

Another guy just found a fix here. Tell me what you guys think.

After digging more, this fixed me!

In my case it was the speedbit video accelerator than comes bundled with DAP (download accelerator plus) a download accerator. Go figure! The article also helps identify other conflicts with other programs! TRY IT

you could try those, if you find other than the connection going, that everything seems sluggish, could try the LSP fix. If it doesn't work, I'd say, if its just connection related, something is blocking it. Whether its an AV program, dormant or active, installed on the machine, some sort of security program for logins, or in more rare cases, a router feature. Some of the ISP devices or gateways (combo between modem and router.) are sometimes VERY limited in their hardware and software. If you find that it is that device, you can either have the ISP replace it for a more modern one with a lot more features and hardware, and less limitations, or go the modem and router solution, to have almost no limitations on the accessibility. I've found some of the weirdest combination devices, or gateways can have affects on programs connecting.

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8 and have been having trouble with itunes lately. I would click on the app in my dock & it would say that the itunes file could not be read because a newer version of itunes was available. It gave me the option to check for updates for download, but the results for the software update scan came back empty, like in the screen shots others have posted. So I would log onto the Apple website to download the latest version of iTunes. The download would work just fine, but I'd go to click on the iTunes app in my doc like always and the same darn message would pop up. I repeated the process a few times hoping that I would work, but no such luck was had. I waited 2 weeks to see if Apple would post a message about the problem, but they didn't. So I repeated the process again tonight. No luck.

Then I went to top right of my screen and typed in "iTunes" in the search bar where the magnifying glass is. I clicked on the iTunes application selection and my iTunes account opened up just fine & has been working fine all night. I don't understand it at all, but it works now. I just deleted the old iTunes app symbol from my dock and moved the one that opened up without any problems in its place.

I hope this will work for some of you. I know the problems I had at first made me so angry and stressed me out. Good luck everyone!

I have the same problem as everyone else.. I figured I would just install the new version... Blindly, going in knowing that I might loose everything.

    But it worked

Oh thank you, thank you for this answer.  I used IE for years as my default browser.  I was not going to upgrade it from 8 to 9 but one of the Windows Upgrades was sneakie and before I knew it... I had IE9.  I have had so much trouble with IE9 especially trying to run videos.  I finally decided to go to Firefox.  The iTunes last update is what I had blamed the freezing of iTunes and other issues on.  I have an iMac with Windows 7 installed using Bootcamp.  My iTunes was originally installed on the Windows 32bit side and worked great.  Using Firefox, it would not let me reinstall iTunes 32bit and insisted on 64bit which when it did install, it would not run any of my music because it was "not compatible."  So I removed the 64bit version again and when trying to reinstall, it kept saying it was already installed.  SOOOO, I, too, hope my long email helps someone!  Thanks to KatieBlue, I closed out of Firefox and went to IE and downloaded and installed my Windows 32bit update of iTunes.  Worked like a charm!

Now, for videos, I will use Firefox and for iTunes, I will use IE.  YEAH!

    ---Problem Solved--

    Old version iTune 11.0.4

    New version 11.0.5.5

    OS- Win 8 64bit

    1. Copy "iTune64.msi" to  "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes" (from your download)

    Run as admin.

    It was installed sucessfully.

    ( I also ran AppleApplicationSupport.msi, and AppleMobileDeviceSupport64)

    Thanks

The only method that has worked for me is to download the program from the website each time. This has been going on for over a year on my Windows 7 PC.

    # iTunes has an issue with updates for Windows 7.

Having similar problems, except the update will not download all the way. It's on a Windows 7 64 bit, and thought it was my slow internet (live in the boonies). It comes up with some error message that the download cannot be complete due to blah...blah..blah. Updated it on my Mac, no issues no problems.
