    Massimiliano,

The Aperture 3.4 installer has a problem and may cause an incomplete install. You should remove your current installation and reinstall from your original installation media, then upgrade again, see this support article by Apple:

Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating

Post back, if there are still problems after reinstalling or you want further advice.

    Regards

Thanks Leonie for help and forgive me as I'm not so skill.

I have the CD of Aperture 3.0. To delete Aperture installation I have to open Finder go to Applications folder and delete Aperture.app. Correct?

Then I have to reinstall Aperture from CD and update directly with a fresh download of the 3.4 version or I have to reinstall also the intermediate update (3.1, 3.2, 3.3)?

As you are so kind: have you any suggestion to speed up my iMac 27 again that after the OS update to Mountain Lion has slowed down so much?

Thanks a lot for help and consideration.

Yes, delete the Aperture application from the Applications Folder. You will have to enter your administrator password to be able to do that.

Exactly, you install from your CD and then install directly the last update 3.4, as the intermediate updates are probably causing the problem. Don't try to launch the 3.0 version at all. It will not be able to open your current Aperture library. Update immediately. Just in case your installer CD should no longer work, reinstall using the Trial version:

    Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.

After reinstalling Aperture 3.4, rebuild your Aperture Library: see

Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual

Post back, if you should still see crashes after this - in some rare case you will have to remove certain preferences, but then we need to see a crash log.

    Regards

    Léonie

P.S.: to speed up your iMac: How much RAM and disk space do you have, and how full is your hard drive? What processor type?

I have deleted Aperture and reinstalled from the trial version as the original CD wasn't working. Then I have update to the 3.4.1 version, but nothing has changed. When I double click on Aperture icon in the dock it start to repair the library because of some inconsistencies. The Aperture open but the pointer changes from arrow to the rainbow coloured wheel and there stays for hours. The program doesn't answer and the computer is terribly slowed down so thet I hev some difficulties in forcing the exit from Aperture to restart the Mac. What can I do now?

    Massimiliano,

how large is your library? The upgrading may take several hours for a large library.

Launch Aperture by double clicking the Aperture icon with the options-key ⌥ held  down. Select "other/new" from the pop-up panel. If this succeeds, import a few pictures and test. This will show, if your Aperture insatllation is now o.k. If you can work with a new library, you should try to fix your current library.

Select your current library, and double click it with both ⌥⌘ keys firmly held down the same time, and then select "Rebuild Database".

    Hi Leonie,

my library is about 250 Gb. I didn't succed in creating a new library, but I have upgraded an old one 2.3 Mb large, that means a nearly empty library, and the program is still running after ten minutes always with the raimbow wheel. I have tried to leave it working on the main library (250 Gb) for more than 2 days. Forcing the exit from Aperture is said that the program doesn't answer. I have send several error log to Apple about this.

Try, if Aperture at least can run from a different user account. This will tell us, if some settings/ preferences in your Account are faulty.

    HI Leonie,

I have create a new administrator account with which I have been able to run Aperture 3.4 (I have delete again Aperture and reinstall 3.1 trial and 3.4 upgrade). Nevertheless still doesn't work with my normal account. With the new account I've been unable to open my usual library as I've been said I have not the permissions.

Yes, but are you able to create a new library when launching Aperture in the new account?

I am trying to find out, if you need to reinstall the system or to remove kernel extensions, since reinstalling Aperture does not work.

Yes. When I've launched Aperture it has opened an empty library itself and I've been able to import some pictures and work on them. Now I have found the way to open my usual library from the new account. The "repairing library database" function (that has taken some minutes), but then....tatttarataaaaa: it has worked. I still have my photos!!! What a relief!

Now we have to find the way to make it working in my normal account: do you thik it's possible?

That is really good news, Massimo!

We have to find out, what is different between your regular account and the new account.

    Places to check:

    • Your start-up items: Check the start-up items in "System Preferences > User&groups" and disable any in your account, that are not present in the new account.
    • Aperture presets and plug-ins: Check, what is installed in
your User Library  > Application Support > Aperture
I'd try to remove the most suspicious presets, that might be used when rendering images, to the Desktop, and see, if that helps, for example: Raw Decode Presets.plist, AdjustmentPresets.plist, Adjustment Chain Presets.plist, Web Export Presets.plist
You already trashes the apple.com.aperture.plist file, but might just do that again, since it is recreated each time.

Hi Léonie, I hope I understand correctly your instruction.

    Schermata 2012-09-30 alle 20.30.07.png

These are the items that are automatically launched at the start-up. Spider 3 Utility is a software to calibrate the monitor, Connect 360 to share files with the XBox. The others I think you know.

In the other account off course I have no app launched at the start-up.

    Schermata 2012-09-30 alle 20.40.16.png

This is the only plugin I have found in Application support -> Aperture of my usual account. Off course none in the other account. To say the truth I also use other two plugin from Topaz (Denoise and Focus in) that seems to work differently and to be out of Aperture. When I use them they create a new version of the photo beside the one I'm working on. I don't know if this can help.

    Thanks again for help.

    Regards.

    Massimiliano
