Q: iCloud refuses to save Mail's email alias?

Anyone else finding it impossible to create additional aliases in iCloud's Mail settings?

I have one alias currently (either created before or after the MobileMe transition occurred, I don't remember) but I can't seem to add another.  It clearly states that I have "2 of 3 remaining," but any attempt to add another results in an alert dialog:

Cannot save alias

This alias cannot be saved at this time.

I tried the most ridiculous combos of alphanumeric spellings, to ensure it was not a case of a previously used mail address; I tried logging in different times of the day, hoping it would correct itself, but to no avail.  Always the same vague alert.

Can someone please confirm this is an issue of half-baked Mail preferences?  Preferably a previous MobileMe customer if possible?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I guess Apple is in the process of migrating all accounts to the new service, so you have to check every day if it works, since I have not received any email telling me that the problem has been solved... I had spent several days trying to create an alias (and always getting the error message...) and today it just worked

I have not received any mail, I've tried just like every day...

Trying it each day is what I've been doing, too. From your experience it looks like such a routine can pay off. I for one shall persevere!

I have a similar problem in that I was able to delete one of my "ME" vintage aliases, but could not add a new "iCloud" one in the same session.  I signed on to iCloud for a few days and finally was able to add one to replace the one I deleted.  When I tried to add a second, I was not allowed to do so.  After a few days of trying it again, I was told I had to wait for 7 days.  Only new wrinkle for me is that I am in the process of moving data from an 2008 15" MBP to a new 13" (Both 10.8.2).  Signing in to iCloud on the 13" the first time, was not as clean as I expected.  Many multiple password entries, screens going blank and resetting to the opening screen, etc.  The process finally halted and nothing worked until I went to the 1 to 1 session the next day and I found that all the passwords etc that hung the day before, were functional.  After that, I have had only the "alias" problem.

BTW, when I was at the One to One session,  I asked the tech about adding aliases and was able to duplicate my problems.  He did not have an answer; I could not tell if he did not know one or was not willing to give me one.

Add me to the list... I now have (apparently) interchangeable mac.com, me.com AND icloud.com addresses. (which I only use because I HAVE to, and I can't merge them with my original apple ID (my regular non-apple email)). but that's besides the point.

I got married and changed my name. Want to update my email address.  Can't CHANGE my mac/me/icloud account, so figured I'd add an alias.  Didn't try before the icloud conversion, but have tried many times since, and always get the "can't be saved at this time" error.

If I send messages to my icloud account they come through.  But I never got an email saying I'd officially been rolled over.

But the weird part- ONE time last week it did NOT say "can't be saved at this time". Instead it said something like "you have too many aliases [which is not true, i have one], please wait a week and try again."

So, I just tried again.  Now it's back to the 'can't save at this time'.

Glad to see I'm not alone- but frustrating nonetheless!

Dropped in and saw some are claiming victory so I tried the page myself and- Boom!- I'm in.  It appears however the issue is not fixed for everyone so here is my contribution to the pool of knowledge:

    - the alias is an icloud.com address as expected.

    - my original ID and first alias now have a third icloud.com ending along side the previous mac.com and me.com;  it would seem a migration has been underway for some twelve months and is still ongoing.

    - I did not receive any notification that icloud.com had been added to my handles.

To those still waiting I can only hope we are seeing the end of this and recommend "keep trying," as nachomarvel suggested earlier...

    Regards
