But I just want to keep my Facebook push notifications enabled when getting messages and comments. Do you think this shouldn't go over 2GB in a month?

you can also... double tap the home button and shut down any apps that are running down the bottom, not sure if they transmit while theyre ''running'' but hold down on them and then start hitting all the X's

im not sure if this will fix your issue, but its all worth a shot

When I get iPhone 5, do you think I shouldn't use 4G at all? Would that affect anything? Also, is it ok to go on Twitter and Facebook often everyday? I would have 2GB.

4g will just load stuff faster, its not going to effect the size of the stuff youre loading... unless its videos and stuff, with a higher bandwith they will give you the HD version of the video...

but websites and facebook and twitter wont be any different.

i average 5-6 gigs a month and i use my phone constantly, and stream like 5-10 hours of espn radio a month on average

Do you think logged on Skype should be ok if its just instant messaging? Did you get this data problem fixed after disabling cellular data when on Wifi mode?

The problem for me is when will it get resolved.

Would never tell someone to buy or not buy a product based on my experience. Totally up to you. Personally, I was so excited to get this phone. I am really upset about the data issue and the carrier's lack of knowledge and inability to offer temporary solutions on their end so that we can use the phone normally without fear of overages. But not everyone is seeing this issue.

As for turning everything off, it's all off. Been off since day 2. I believe we discussed that at the beginning of this thread but there are a few threads on this topic so it might have been a different one. At first I thought I would slowly bring things online again but it became apparent quite quickly that it was just the phone's normal operation that is using the data. I consider checking email normal usage. We're talking small emails, no attachments. I don't even browse.

This is why I'm very nervous of getting this phone. I think I should re-order once everything with this data will get fixed. I know I'm supposed to turn off cellular data but I am still nervous because I don't want to get over charged.

Well, I'm here reading all these posts about excessive data usage because I'm noticing the same problem.  I've been connected to wi-fi 90% of the time.  When I've been off wi-fi I've been avoiding using data over LTE since I'm new to a metered data plan.  The only time I've been off wi-fi is when I've been in the car or a store or something.  My family has wi-fi at their homes and I connect to that as soon as I arrive at their house.  I wanted to be sure I don't go over the 2 gig limit.  The closest I've come to 2 gig's of use is  1.9 gig on my unlimited plan but I don't think I ever went over that.  Most often I only use around 700 MB a month.  That's with watching youtube videos and browsing the Internet at will.  I've only had this iPhone 5 for a week and I'm already up to 754 MB and I haven't even been intentionally using Verizon's network.

Also looking at my usage history on the Verizon website.  I'm seeing that my phone has been hitting Verizon's network in the earliest hours of the morning.  At 5:19 AM 266 MB's, I wasn't even out of bed yet.  Yesterday while I was looking for wall paper and downloading music to the phone Over WI-FI I somehow used 106 MB over Verizon.  I'm glad I saw this post come up in the Google search I did.  I now have Cellular Data turned off which is pretty irritating considering I have this thing so I can have portable internet access throughout the day.

Yes, when I turned off Cellular Data, and while on wifi, I did not use any data from my data plan.

Dan, this is exactly what I want and yes, if I did this 24/7, I would be over my 4GB in about a week and a half... We've estimated that based on the usage recorded and billed and confirmed by Verizon from 9/21 through 9/23 doing exactly what you said. No videos, no iTunes, just Facebook, twitter with a manual fetch, and email with a manual fetch. Just pay attention to what you're using. If you notice an issue, you will have to get on the phone with customer service.

LTE vs no LTE should not have an effect on how much data is used, just on how fast it is transferred.

Can't wait to learn what the issue turns out to be.

The other thing you can do is call Verizon and ask them to note on your account what you are experiencing. I did and now when I call back, I reference that conversation and date and name of the person I spoke to as we'll as the time, and ask if others are experiencing the issue. More are and as long as its noted on your account, and you verify it after, they have 0 ability to dispute your claim about over useage.

Lastly, find the number for the marketing department at Verizon if you have a real issue. These people don't need a supervisor to make a change, will communicate via email (paper trail) and get stuff done.

It's not what you know, it's who you know.
