Uninstall iOS 6 and return to iOS 5?

    Yes it is most definitely accurate that restoring 5.1.1 could cause your phone to become an unusable brick.


    Apple does not support downgrading, so if you do it, you are on your own if you get into trouble.

    or you can try force restore by restarting your iphone connected to your computer if you dont care about the backup

    iTunes does not "mess" with the hosts file. Only apps that are used to hack or jailbreak iPhones "mess" with the hosts file.

    Actually Apple does support downgrading, as installing ios 6 effectively downgraded several aspects of my iPhone while denying most of the fancy tweaks to those of us with the 4. (Siri, Turn by turn, photo-stitch...)

    Apart from Maps, battery life and speed my worst loss was the ability to include podcasts into playlists that contain other spoken word media. Thanks Apple for removing user friendly options for no damned reason!

    There is one serious issue with the iOS6 about Toll Free Service support. I have an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1 which does not allow my toll free number to be forwarded to my cellphone. Before this, I had the toll free working perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy S II. My toll free service allows me to forward the receiving calls (from the clients) to several numbers simultaneously. The call rings at all devices except iphone 5. If i use a different smartphone, then this works perfectly. disabling the LTE does not help either.


    the toll free company says it is our job to forward your call to the destination(s) which we do and the cellphone company's job is to receive them. the mobile networking company says we can do this on any device but we often see this issue with other clients of the iPhone 5 as well. the last suggestion I got from the Fido tech guy is to downgrade the iOS from 6 to 5.x.x.


    Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

    I have no idea what your problem is, because I successfully forward my toll-free number to my iPhone and have been doing it with every iOS version for over 5 years. I highly doubt that the problem is the phone or iOS. Most likely a problem with your carrier.

    Think of this observation: i set my toll free to forward the incoming calls to a landline and then I forward that to iPhone. Guess what? Still the call cannot be received in iPhone. So it is not the sender that can be a cellphone, toll free or landline but the receiver. Does this make sense?

    The phone does not discriminate based on where a call originated. If it is not reaching your phone it is not reaching your carrier, or your carrier is blocking it. Or the carrier is slow to connect to your phone, and the forwarding times out.
