My iPhone 5 has unresponsive or "dead" zones that are intermittent.

My iPhone 5 has unresponsive or "dead" zones that are intermittent.  The phone is 3 days old.  Is this a hardware issue?

    There have been a few solutions that a have read worth trying. 

     

    1.  Plug in the lightning plug. 

    2.  Close all open apps.  Possible overload situation.

    3.  Hold down home button and power button until phone reboots.

     

    I had issues the second day then went 5 days without any.  It started again this morning.  I connected the lightning plug and the issue was resolved for now.

    Are you refering to the screen? If so I am having the same issue. When I go to tap the screen to do something or to swipe between app screens it appears frozen for a few seconds or really slow. Then it doesn't recognise my taps when I try to open an app (ie I try to swipe and it opens an app). No idea what this is!

    Yes.  If you go to YouTube and search "IPhone 5 Inresponsive Screen", my phone is having intermittent periods of doing the same thing.  Plugging the lightning cord into the phone helps for whatever reason.  I'm sure that this is only a temporary fix.  Seems like a software bug.

    That should say Unresponsive instead of Inresponsive.  I love auto-correct.

    My Iphone 5 is almost unusable due to the freezing screen. The phone is about 6 months old and did not do this when it was purchased.

    However it has been getting progressively worse to a point where its impossible even to power off. Nothing is responsive- icons, power button etc.Can't even power it off.

    Pressing the home button sometimes will get it back working, but then after a bit, it goes back to the "frozen mode". I have tried the hard reboot and plugging the lighting cord in, and it seems to have helped.

    Will wait and see, but this is not normal. I am going to call the cell company and see if i can get it replaced. Very unhappy with this product. The 4S I had before worked great. I am disappointed in this phone.

    Same problem here! Just got mine for two days! The right side of the touch screen is often unresponsive. When using the keypad, I often have to touch the letters (on the right side) many times to get a response. Wonder if it would just stop responding entirely someday? Thought I got a "lemon" - didn't know it was such a common problem. A bit disappointed already. Does anyone know if Apple have mentioned anything about this issue?

    I thought I would give you an update. I hard booted my Iphone 5, and it worked for a short time. (10 mins) It then reverted back to the unresponsive buttons, icons that don't work and just over all non functioning as it will not respond to any of the touch screen actions.

    As far as using the phone, it is intermittent: It seems to then go back to normal for a few minutes, and then back to the unresponsiveness. From what I have been reading in these posts, it seems to be i a hardware issue.

    On another note, I have another Iphone 5 64 GB in black, and it is working just fine, no problems and I had ordered both these phones at the same time.

    The one with the problem is a white 64 GB. Seems like a few other people are reporting the white ones with a problem. I am not sure why the color would have anything to do with it, because I would assume the hardward inside comes from the same factory!

    I am at wits end with it, my wife is very unhappy with her phone and I am going to the Apple Store as soon as I have the chance to get a new one. I dont want it fixed, I want Apple to provide me with a new one. Period.

    Not acceptable for this product. We had 4S before this, and no problems.
