I have seen reports of Apple fixing this issue with Verizon, but no comments at all towards ATT users.  I can confirm with 100% certainty as can many others that this is an issue with ATT customers as well.  I was using my Iphone just a moment ago and it was showing "connected" to my Wifi Router but the router shows no defices connected.  In addition it is painfully slow when this is occurring - to the point of typically not loading anything - probably because for some reason the Iphone is trying to access data on the router while the router isn't recognizing any defices being connected.

    Please fix this problem immediately.

Well, I am a verizon customer and I received the update they pushed out last night. It may have helped something but it did not solve or help with the wifi drop out issue. For me it doesn't matter if I am connected to a secure or unsecure network. All the fixes I have tried so far last about 1 -2 minutes and then it drops wifi.

    Hope they fix this soon.

the verizon fix states that it ONLY fixes a problem with your data plan being charged when using wifi. it does NOT fix the wpa2 AES signal drop problem. There has not yet been an official statement regarding the wpa2-AES signal drop problem.

    Ok I seem to have sorted this issue on my iPhone 5! I was having intermittent drop outs on wifi and very slow speeds - here's what I did;

Log into your routers IP address and change settings to allow WPA ONLY!! Most newer routers use WPA/WPA2 and also change the wifi channel to one that gives you the best connection across all your devices, once set, restart your iPhone. For me, this seems to have done it, I have been trying to drop connection all day and it won't!!!

Changing or turning off security is a workaround that a lot of us have tried.

Problem is when you go to work, or any wireless network where you don't control the router.

Someone on here said an Applecare rep told her to contact the IT dept at work and have them change the security. Hysterical, and you'd think working at a large company the Applecare rep would know what kind of response you'd get.

If you have to change or disable security, the phone is still broken.

And of the many things I have tried at my house, just for s hits and giggles, this was one of them, all to no avail. Still puzzling as to why the connection is so s hitty on one server and so great on another, yet my IP4S using the same app, does remarkebly well on both.

Here also the wpa2/aes issues on an iphone5 bought in Belgium. Wifi doesn't connect sometimes after unlocking or does connect and receives no data. A lot of people here say to go the apple store and get a new one... but this only works in the US. Here there is big waiting list and 'you should be glad' to have one.

btw: iphone 4 of my girlfriend works flawless with same router.

Other people here from Belgium with same issue?

    Hi,

I spent an hour or so between level one Apple support and then a senior advisor (and many more hours downloading the firmware) this weekend trying to get my iPhone5 to connect to my WPA2 protected AP.  They had me backup, reset everything, restore, restore the phone to original firmware even.  We reset, rebooted, lowered the security (removed MAC filter, turned on broadcast SSID, simplified the password) on the AP as well.

Still nothing.  It sees the network fine but tells me it's unable to join every time I enter the password.  The correct, simplified password.

Apple's senior advisor's conclusion as of this morning is since the phone can connect to a public WiFi there is a problem with my network and they'd like to know things like what kind of anti-virus is running on my network.  WTH?

What does it matter?  It can't connect to the AP so how does my internal network even play into this.  More importantly, my Apple TV connects, my Mac Mini that is normally hardwired connects, my WD TV, Blu Ray, Asus netbook, and my iPhone1 all connect just fine... and they know this.

I even had the iPhone1 forget the network and I re-joined, re-entered the password with no problem.

If the only device that can't connect is my iPhone5 I fail to see how this is a problem with MY network.

I am having the same issues. I'm on att (iphone 5 32gb) and they started my data plan over on 9/21 and they say I have used 1.9gb in 10 days. I had the 4s and rarely got to 1.9gb in a month. The wifi doesnt work very well if at all when I have the cellular data on but when I have the cellular data off the wifi works fine. It's like when it was working it was using the cell network even tho I was connected to wifi. There is no way I have used that much data in such a short amount of time. I talked to apple and they recognize there is an issue and they are trying to fix it but they said they are not responsible for refunding or adjusting the bill thru att. Att doesnt really have anything to say besides they know there's something going on. I really hope they adjust the bill when the problem is fixed.

I received my iphone5 on the September 21st....and had the same issues with wifi painfully slow...it would not get above 512k...when my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 both connected perfectly...all three had IOS6.

    I tried everything ...everything...

I went into the wifi settings for my connection...click on the blue arrow..

    and changed the:

    HTTP Proxy to:  Auto

    and in the

    Client ID: test

    Renew Lease....

and now its working....don't know why...don't know for how long...

hope there is a software update for this....

    Hi all,

    I'VE FIXED IT!!!

Seeing the same problem here - WEP didn't work, DNS servers didn't work.  What does work, for me anyway, I've used a HTTP proxy, set to manual pointing to a little squid server I have.

No idea why this would work as before:

    iPhone -> Router -> Internet.

    Now:

iPhone -> Router -> Proxy -> Router -> Internet (and back!)

But it does.  I'm trying hard to think how this could possibly work, in fact I'm not even sure why I tried it - but it does.  Still connecting via WPA2 to the router etc...

Anyway, good luck all - but this to me proves it's software.

    Regards,

    Craig.

I also had the same problem with my iphone5 and apple tv! It is the outdated router firmware! I had to buy a new router to fix mine! I went with the apple airport! I know this *****! I have found that some places the wifi works and some places it does not! It has to do With the routers!

Apple needs to say what it is and stop betting around the bush!

My router was a dlink615. It's firmware was from 2009. The router was purchased less then a year ago, and has no updates by dlink!

I dug up the WIFI  compliance and  certification report. It had some information that I did not know. Useful for setting routers.

    http://certifications.wi-fi.org/pdf_certificate.php?cid=WFA15993

    Note the extended capabilities.

    Short Guard Interval

    - TX A-MPDU

    - 40 MHz operation in 5 GHz

    And EAP-SIM

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EAP-SIM

Makes me wonder about SIMs....Why would someone use a SIM card to authenticate WIFI? Apparently we will find out.
