It all started when i was watching videos online and the screen froze. It did this a couple more times and in between these freezes the computer would occasionally freeze during start up while the gray wheel was spinning.

I was running lion. i decided to reinstall snow leopard (dont ask why) and upon doing so ran into a few troubles such as the compter saying my log in password was incorrect. after sorting all this the computer was fine for a day or so til it froze again, this time while watching a video from a usb flash drive.

from that moment on, i have not been able to get past the "you must restart your computer" screen. I have tried everything i have found in this forum that relates to my problem to no avail.

i have booted in safe mode, booted in terminal mode and checked the hd which is said to be ok, i have resest the ram, and i have tried to boot from install disk (both dvd and usb flash drive)

after i check the hd in terminal, i typed "exit" to reboot and received this message:

cannot get audit control port

Warning: audit space low <5% free

systemShutdown false

along with others

Please help. this computer is my life line and im way too broke to pay for repairs or god forbid a new one

Do you have any free disk space available?

If you have backups, I suggest a clean install and then restore from backup. Make sure at least 1GB of space is always available so OS X can continue to operate normally.

If you can post a screenshot (or camera photo) of the message dialog that asks you to restart that might be helpful too. Just want to figure out whether it's OSX or a third party app.

i have 7gb available. the message wipes from the top and says "you must restart your computer" in 4 different languages.

and i guess i dont know what you mean by clean install cuz i cant boot from the install disk or a usb drive version of the install to even attempt it. please clarify

Correct. I mean wipe and install OS X clean. You should be able to install from USB drive or DVD. Restart your MBP and hold 'C' during starup.

does anyone know whether i should take this in to be fixed or have any idea what is causing the problem.

it seems to happen whenever i watch videos. the computer does get extremely hot while watching. Could the hardware be damaged by the heat? somebody throw me a bone.

I would still recommend a clean install.

If after the clean install it still hangs, then it's a hardware issue and you would have to take it to Apple.

now when i try to start it, there is no tone and the screen is black. i did remove the ram memory in an attempt to clean any dust that may be in the internal part of the computer. the ram memory was after market upgrade i havent had a problem with but research suggests that maybe the 3rd party ram may cause a problem in this case.

    HELP!!

If it was working up until now, then it might just have failed.

If you have two memory modules, leave one in and try to boot. Then try the other one instead. If it doesn't boot with either of them, then you need to buy memory.

I did what you said with the RAM memory. Now I'm back to square one with the computer booting up to the screen that states you must restart your computer. I tried rebooting from the install disc and finally started a clean reinstall, Only to have the computer freeze during installation. Running a hard drive check showed that the hard drive was okay still. Any other thoughts?

Try running the Apple Hardware Test:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

This should tell us if something is faulty.
