My iphone 4s is using data and no apps are running and I have all services shut down. I have AT&T. I called the  and they offered no solution but did refund $55.00 of my bill. Is anyone else having this problem on AT&T? I saw that Verizon customers got hit with data overages and Apple wrote a quick software fix but nothing for AT&T.

I check my usage rate by downloading a data monitor and in 20 minutes of my phone doing nothing it had used 70 KB's of data. This is very dtarnge because after 2 years I have never exceeded my data limit.

    I've not had any problems.

Have you restored your phone as NEW?  This has helped some users.

I will try that tonight. Thank you for the suggestion and I will let you know how that turns out.

I did the reset but it was still using data. I finally wnrt into settings and turned the "Cellular" option to off and the constant darin stopped.

I just find it funny that i had no overage issues until I upgraded to IOS 6. maybe just me. Anyways thanks for the help.

I've noticed the same thing. On the 19th i had 627.7MB and now on the 1st im at 1,843.22, that's also with being on wifi most of the time. I have not been over 50% of my limit in a long time and now I'm close to going over. Hopefully I can make it till the 12th without going over.

    Hi tbb 10,

I had to turn of the cellular function in order to stop the constant use of data. I am with you on this one I had no problem for 2 years until I upgraded to IOS 6. Very strange.

I have had this happen to me. Brand new iPhone 5, setup from scratch. I went from 464MB usage to 5GB in one night. At a concert hall. With no service. AT&T supposedly is unable to lift the throttling on my account, as it's "an automated system". I'm stuck with dial-up speeds until the end of the month.

Restore to new doesn't work. 4 gbs  since the 25th. Only thing AT&T and apple suggest is turn off cell data when on wifi.

Oh yes ... That's why I bought a smart phone ... To disable the thing and turn it into a regular phone.

Nice that AT&T is crediting the overage charge but seriously- a fix to Verizon but AT&T is just ignored as no problem exists?

Right now - on wifi - in standby- battery has dropped 10% in less than 30 mins and 2 Meg's of cell data.  All apps closed and in standby.

Yup. No problem here - works great (sarcasm intended).

Perhaps Apple will get enough hints that there is a problem with IOS 6. At least that is what i think it is. I have a 4s that worked fine until the software upgrade.

I would roll it back to the IOS 5 series in a heartbeat but I can't find anywhere that tells me how to do that without risking turning my phone into a brick.

The service rep that i spoke to At&t was bending over backwards to refund the data fee in its entirety whicj leads me to believe I was not the only cistomer with this issue. And by the additional post here it appears that there are others of us having data transmissions into no where.

I have an iPad2 and an iPhone5 both running iOS6 and using the AT&T network.

My iPhone does not appear to be exhibiting any problems, but my iPad allegedly racked up 1GB of cellular data on Saturday (according to my online AT&T account). I was streaming the Ryder Cup coverage to my iPad that day, but was doing it over my home wi-fi network and not on the cellular network. The usage data (found under Settings>General>Usage>Cellular Usage) said I had consumed 25.5MB of cellular data since upgrading to iOS6 (when I last reset the stats).

I called AT&T and identified the problem. The rep insisted that the issue was mine and that I couldn't have been connected to my wi-fi network, but nevertheless agreed to waive any overage charges if I exceed my 2GB data plan in the remaining 25 days of my billing cycle.

I asked, and was able to speak to a supervisor to see if they would admit there was an issue. I pointed out that Verizon had already admitted the problem existed for them and pointed him to several reports on the web of the concern existing for AT&T as well. He was polite, but would not admit to any problem...

My recommendation to users on AT&T using iOS6 is to regularly check your data usage online and call AT&T if you see a problem -- they will almost certainly waive any overage fees.

At&t did refund my fees also. I spoke with thema gain today and they set up a call back next monday to see if my data use still keeps climbing evethough I am not doing anything at all to use any data. I am Wi-Fi at home and at work.

Does anyone know of an app that in addition to tracking data and wi-fi usage will also track what app is using data and wi-fi. Knowing that I am lossing data into thin air is nice but I would like to what app is using it.

That would certainly be good to know.

My Data Manager does what you want:

    http://my-data-manager.en.softonic.com/iphone

but... I just checked and it has disappeared from the App Store and their website doesn't indicate support for iOS6.

A quick search in the App Store didn't show any alterantives with this function.

Just my two cents...but this is a recent chat transcript between myself and at&t:

You are now chatting with 'Nick Cedillo'

Nick Cedillo: I will be happy to assist you today.

Nick Cedillo: I understand you are having issues with data usage. Is that right?

Chet Lewis: thanks, yes - just wanted to add my name to the growing list of customers who have noticed enormous data usage stats since upgrading to iphone 5....Spoke with Apple and they advised they are aware of the At&t data issue and are working on it but I needed to let my carrier know I was also aware...

Nick Cedillo: Ok thanks for that information. I will make a note of this on your account. Apple should be releasing a software update to resolve that issue.

Chet Lewis: very good....thanks for your assistance Nick....

    That is GREAT NEWS!

I tried to get to Apple to discuss this issue online but they wanted me to pay $19.99 because my Iphone 4s is out of waht they claim tobe the warranty period.

I was going to try and call but now that you have I hope they are working on solving this issue real hard.

Mine's been draining data since the beta on my 4S, now that it's released, I still see the same issue, and even upgraded to the iPhone 5. Data still draining.  Updated my wife's iPhone 4 to iOS 6 and she keeps getting overage charges as well.
