Q: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?

I'm currently waiting on Apple support to call me back about this issue, but I thought I would reach out here to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

I upgraded to IOS 6 yesterday afternoon, and immediately after I could no longer connect to the Wifi at my place of employment.  Everyone had this issue, no big deal.

Went home, Wifi worked fine.

Came into work this morning and I am still unable to connect. I have tried all of the various recommended fixes, and even gone so far as to do a complete restore.   I work at a university with multiple networks and access points and have tried connecting to several, both secure and unsecure, with no luck.

This is what happens:

Unsecure Networks: Attempt to connect, wheel spins, Error Message: "Unable to Connect"

Secure Network: Attempt to connect, prompted for password, enter password, Error Message: "Incorrect Password"  (Yes I entered the correct password, I tried multiple times, and the IT tech was able to connect to it with his iPad 2 running IOS 5)

I am also not the only one, everyone on campus who has upgraded their iPad 3 to IOS 6 is unable to connect. (All staff/factulty have iPads, most have upgraded)

I have spoken with the IT department and they are baffled, they have tried rebooting various routers and access points to no avail.

Obviously there is something different happening in IOS 6 that is causing these issues.  My question is has anyone else encoutered this issue, and if so what have you done to fix it?

I have seen people above who have upgraded firmware on their personal wireless routers with success, but for a university with literally hundress of access points and routers this is out of the question, at least in the short term.

Problem with my NetGear is that it already IS updated. And I really don't want to downgrade.

That's fine that updating your firmware worked but that is not a fix for the overall problem.  If you are using someone else's wifi or at a hotel, you can't change their firmware.  This was not an issue with the previous iOS and the new iOS needs to be corrected.

There's 32 pages of posts.......Is APPLE going to fix this?!!!  This is ridiculous!  2 hours ago I was all good and fine with my iPhone 4s.  Worked perfect with 5.1.1.  Now I want to throw it out the window or smash it with a hammer.  How come there isn't any announcement from APPLE saying, WE ARE WORKING ON IT....WE'LL GET IT TAKEN CARE OF ASAP!!  C'MON APPLE.  GETTING READY TO LOOK AT A DROID!

I have an iPhone 4, and didn't experience this WiFi "shutdown" until tonight. I've upgraded to iOS 6 awhile ago, but this problem just surfaced.

Basically, I couldn't get WiFi connection from my wired Linksys WT54G (ver 8.2) router, even though the router is up-to-date. My iPhone 4 would not recognize a single WiFi around my neighborhood.

The only thing that worked after several different trial/errors online, was to simply shutdown everything for about one minute (ie, turned off iPhone 4, DSL router, and Linksys router. Start - ReLog and so far, I have "tone" on my iPhone.

    Hope this last

Keeping the firmware up to date on your network devices is always a good idea. The updates contain security fixes, patches for known issues etc.

Note that the issue we see here is not firmware on network devices. Updating your firmware may assist if it is not at the latest release but it has no impact on resolving the cause of our issues.

My network is Apple Airport Extreme, extended with Apple Airport Express relays. All network devices have been on latest firmware since the last release.

The connection issues I am seeing on my IOS devices have only become evident since the IOS6 upgrade. All my other devices are stable and display no issues. There have been no changes to my network devices, the only change has been to IOS on some iPads and iPhones. Those not on IOS6 are still fine.

I have also seen an impact on my old MacMini (wifi connection) since the last OS update that is similar to what I see on my iPad and iPhone. Not as severe or consistent but evident none the less (as highlighted by others earlier in this thread). I am currently reconfiguring devices at the MacMini to provide wired Ethernet to a high speed switch that will be wired to its local Airport Express. This way I can turn off wifi on the MacMini and see if the issue is resolved. Monitoring the Expresses indicates that they are stable and do not have connection issues at present.

The fact that my IOS5 devices are fine, and that other wifi connected devices are fine; plus the fact that the only change in my environment was the upgrade to IOS6 means that the issue is inside IOS6. Anything we do outside IOS may assist in hiding the problem but cannot resolve it. That means it can and may reoccur until IOS6 is fixed.

Yes update your network device firmware if it is not at current release levels, you should do this always. Yes it may improve your situation but it will not (cannot) resolve the cause of our issues.

To be fair to Apple, this is very likely a deep and complex issue. The information we are providing is related to symptoms only. Most of us in this thread will not have the ability to provide detailed network traces that may indicate what is coming unstuck. It may be significant that the issue seems (at least to some) to get worse over time and that rebooting the IOS6 device provides some temporary respite.

We need to give Apple time to work this through, although I agree it would be good for them to acknowledge the issue exists or advise why it is not an issue.

The fact that the issue is not immediately apparent, and that the issue seems to get worse over time could be indicating a slow memory leak or something similar.

I can confirm my devices were fine when first upgraded to IOS6. The issue only appeared some time later and then slowly at first. Not all devices displayed the issue at the same time. This would indicate it is usage related and probably a compounding issue.

    Hopefully this may help Apple.

By the way, I am only restarting my IOS devices not the network devices. This seems to give me some respite.

    Further to my comments above,

My iPad could not bring down articles from the news app I run and speedtest was lagging to the point of failing.

I have shut down the iPad, waited 2mins (although this may not be significant), and rebooted the iPad (power button and home button).

After restart news is loading instantly, speedtest is not lagging at all, new web pages are loading instantly.

I have confirmed that the iPad is connected to my network via the same Airport Express as before the reboot.

I will monitor how long this lasts before it starts to slow again.

I have extended my home (UK) wifi with a netgear extender. Since upgrade to iOS 6 neither iPad nor iPhone will connect to the extended wifi ( the wheel spins forever), but they will connect to the BT network  from which I extended. The devices worked perfectly on the extended network before upgrade and the extended network is working perfectly for all other devices (eg my 80 year old mother's android - she is most amused). So my inner Sherlock Holmes suggests that there might be a netgear issue here?

Yes, there have been problems reported with certain Netgear routers. These routers required a firmware downgrade to resolve the problem (no connection).

What Netgear router model/version do you have?

Eventually someone with my same issue!

My wifi works fine, BUT iPad accepts connection to my home wifi network ONLY IF I LOGIN TO MY PAY-PER-USE Internet access.

This silly, crazy, s....ng, OS doesn't permit to cancel the captive portal activation, keeping the local connection on!!

(eg:Can't look at divx on my NAS via my Goodplayer App anymore!)

What the **** were they doing while designing this "it wimply works" process?

Assuming that EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD there are flat 24/7 ISP contracts?

I have been running a netgear WGT624 router for years with my iphones/ipad/ipod touch and it has been working fine until iOS6. As soon as my wife and I updated to iOS 6 the wifi will no longer connect. Wifi is not greyed out, it will see the network, but when the correct password is put in, it says "unable to connect to network". If incorrect password is put in, it will recognize that the password isn't correct.

Interesting that someone above can log into their pay per use portal.

Since upgrading my iPad 3 almost 2 weeks ago, I've been unable to log into my apart/hotel wifi system which has a login portal/homepage - the 503 Cannot connect to apple message continues to 'hijack' attempts to connect and when the 503 message displays the connection to the router is cut.

I'm getting more and more frustrated by the day.

I agree with you. Both iPad 3 and iPhone cannot hold their connection to my home WiFi. Worked perfectly until I allowd them to upgrade to iOS6.

It is a sad reflection on the competence of Tim Cook and his ability to manage that company. Sell your stock - add this issue to the debacle over the maps and the complaints over iPhone 5 and it is clear that they are on their way down to  becoming just another software company. The majic and commitment to quality is already gone and Jobs died less than a year ago!

    Apple - FIX IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First I had a problem with network, it was just searching like 3 days, then I went to Apple store and they fixed it, but after that another - the same problem with wifi - unable to connect the wifi, before could not find any available wifi, or just loading the connection but still nothing...

I tried all possible ways to fix it but no success...

I hope Apple is going to do something about it asap !
