Q: SD Card not showing after Mountain lion Update

This is really confusing me.

This morning I used the card reader in the imac to copy files, after the update the imac wont recognise my SD cards (including the one that worked this morning), they are not coming up in disk utility either.  However when i take it out i get the error message saying that i never ejected it properly.

Any help would be apreciated!

Same here. Updated to mountain lion and my SD cards won't work anymore... Last update to Lion cost my 30 secs extra boottime... Nice Appple. No more updates for me...

Anyone got another way to solve this? None of the above helped me.

    yhdesign,

Try doing an SMC Reset, if you can't firgure it out then call AppleCare for instructions. Also going forward please post in the correct forum, this forum is for Intel based iMac machines not laptops!

Chances are though this isn't an OS X issue at all, it's probably a user issue.

Own MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2010) Recenlty updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Since I upgraded to Lion (10.7) my MacBook stoped regognizing my SD Cards of my camera. I have tried this Termail thing and OMG THANK YOU!!! Everthing works PERFECTLY! I thought my card reader was busted and didn’t want to book my machine in for a repair.

I recommend this method to everyone with the same problem! Thanks!

rkaufmann you're a big meanie.  It's not a user error. How can putting a SD card into the slot be a user issue.

I'm having the same issue. Lion has been trash

I don't know how... my SD cards suddenly started working again... I tried all of the above several times and nothing worked for several weeks. In the meantime I installed every mountain lion update available, none of which (at first glance) had anything to do with this problem and nothing worked. However, last week when I started working on my macbook SD cards were recognised again. I do not know what did the trick. I am almost 100% sure this is a not a hardware problem.

    Thanks so much, rkaufmann87...

This has frustrated me ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and numerous previous Google searches failed to provide a solution.

Your instructions gave it back in FInder so I can Eject without the error messages again!

    This worked for me:

    1) Remove SD Card

    2) In Terminal enter killall -KILL Finder

    3) Put in SD Card

After a safe boot and then reboot , it worked .

    1) Remove SD Card

    2) In Terminal enter killall -KILL Finder

    3) Safeboot / boot holding "Shift" , Reboot normally.

    4) Put in SD Card

    5:)

This is really annoying that I have to go through this everytime I want to read an SD card.

As some one else noted, broken again after reboot.

I  have not had any success in getting the killall fix to work again after many attempts.

No this is not a user issue, this is an OS X issue, appearing across various Macs.

I am also having this problem ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my 2011 MacBook Pro. The SD card just stopped working. However, if I plug that same SD card into my Snow Leopard MacBook Pro, it works perfectly fine. I tried the killall finder and the SMC reset. Nothing helped.

    APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS.

UPDATE: I got it working by doing this:

    • removing SD card
    • running "killall -KILL Finder" in Terminal
    • shutting down
    • starting my MacBook while holding shift
    • inserting SD card

HOWEVER, the next time I rebooted it stopped working. Many others have had this same thing happen, so I just want to confirm that I can re-produce the error.

I regret upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I have had so many problems.

My MAC is an 09 MACBOOK PRO and I never had an issue till upgrading to Lion... First with a HD crash a month after ML install, then another CRASH 3 WEEKS after NEW HD and ML install... And now My PNY SD card isn't being read.. I've done ALL suggestions, and nothing...
