Q: iDVD themes missing

May be this helps.

iDVD Themes

iDVD 1 to 7.0.4

Root level = Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / iDVD / Themes

or

Macintosh HD / USERS / Your name or login identity / Library / Application Support / iDVD / Installed Themes

And do not move or alter name of application recourses - as the application then loses track of it.

Then You run Mac OS X.7

If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library need to be set to be viewable.

But as I'm on X.6.8 - I have no clue to howto change this in X.7 - think that You ctrl-click in window or something like that.

Ask in Mac OS X.7 forum and they know for certain.

And please Share here - so I'll be able to pass on better advices in future.

To be able to see Library - I found these

In finder, go to the "Go" menu item. 

While it is open, hit option,

and you'll see Library show up in the list.

For each account, log into it, and run this command in the Terminal app:


chflags nohidden ~/Library

When you reinstall you should first remove any receipts or BOMs (bill of materials).

Look for all files with "iDVD" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder and move to the Trash.

How about

Moving out the folders/files in Theme or Installed Themes.

Make new folders on DeskTop/Finder and name then as above (so that they can be returned) and move the resp. files here.

Now see if iDVD starts. Then return one or a few themes at a time - re-start iDVD and see if You can find the faulty one.

I have a similer problem: i installed iDVD from a snow leapord mac to my mountain lion mac and it says 'no themes installed'.  do you guys know anything?

How did you install it.  If you just copied the iDVD application over to the MTL Mac then you didn't bring over the themes.

The themes will be located in the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder.  Copy the iDVD folder and it's contents to the same location on the MTL Mac.  Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility and reboot. Then launch iDVD and see if it can find the themes.

If that fails download and apply the iDVD 7.0.1 updater.  If the updater won't run use   Pacifist to extract and install the Application Support portion of the installer's contents.

Did you already change the path to the themes in Preferences/Advanced?

I am encountering a similar problem with iDVD on my new MBP with Mountain Lion.  I installed iDVD as a custom install from my iLife 11 original disk.  With that I had themes 6 and 7 only with the older themes greyed out. I clicked on one of the greyed out themes and received the message that I could get an update, but it goes to the apps store and simply stops there. 

So I copied the themes 1-5 from the Application Support/iDVD/Themes folder that I have on my older MBP with Snow Leopard.  I then copied those themes into the Themes folder on my new MBP.  I did a repair permissions from disk utility and rebooted.  However when I open up iDVD themes from 6 and 7 are ok but the old themes all appear just as a yellow triangle.  There seems to be a broken link there somewhere.  

I tried downloading update 7.0.1 and opened it with Pacifist.  There were only Themes 5,6,7, in there. I tried adding themes 5 out of 7.0.1 into the Application Support/iDVD/Themes folder on my MBP with Mountain Lion, tried repairing permissions (none to repair) rebooted and then tried iDVD, but while themes 6 and 7 are ok, it does not recognise the Themes 5 folder or any of the older themes. 

Any suggestions as to what I can do next?   Philip
