Just got the problem again. Unable to sync my iPhone 5 except over wifi. I had initially gotten the problem, then it went away once I got the iPhone 5 (I had the problem with my 4s), not it's come back a week later.
NIS used here also, Win 7 64bit.
Clearly a bug. Is Apple listening?

I did not go to the extreme of using the uninstallers he recommended. I only had iTunes and Quicktime installed on my Win 7 64bit PC.
Here are the steps I followed:
1. I uninstalled Quicktime using the Quicktime Uninstaller.
2. I uninstalled iTunes using the iTunes64Setup.exe applications and choosing the uninstall feature. None of my files were deleted.
3. Rebooted my PC.
4. I checked the Services in Administrator Tools and the Apple Mobile Device was still there. I stopped the Service.
5. Installed the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi that I extracted from iTunes64Setup.exe.
6. Installed the iTunes64.msi. that was extracted from iTunes64Setup.exe.
When installation was completed I did not need to restart my PC. I was able to immediately sync my iPad and iPhone 4s with IOS6. All of my previous setting were still there (even the check marks on my music). Let's hope this works after I reboot my computer or restart iTunes.

Well I reluctantly tried your process of removing and reinstalling ... and it worked! Thanks very much.
So I'm cautiously optimistic that it will continue to work but I'm still hoping that Apple comes out with an iTunes update.

So, I tried all of this and the problem returns. I found a workaround in another forum that appears to work, so I figured I would share it. If you go into your phone and turn on airplane mode and connect the phone via cable to your Win764bit PC, it works reliably for me. The original poster said it seemed to be a bug with WiFi sync. I never turned it off in iTunes, just put the phone in Airplane mode, synced via the cable and unplugged the cable and turned it back on. My wireless sync did work last night when it was charging... seems to be only when I connect it to the PC.

I've been having the same problem (Windows 7 64-bit) and it seems to be something with one of the services. At this point I'm launching itunes via a batch file which stops and then starts the Apples services and then launches iTunes. It's a work around that works for me...just sharing.
Put the lines below in a batch file if you are interested.
net stop "Bonjour Service" /y
net stop "Apple Mobile Device" /y
net stop "iPod Service" /y
net start "Bonjour Service" /y
net start "Apple Mobile Device" /y
net start "iPod Service" /y
"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe"
Wow, THANKS DC Chris - above - had all the same, but with three Ipod touchs, and one iphone 4s, all at the same time after itunes 10.7 install. Been watching all the threads on multuple forums and tried it all. NOW with what DC Chris said, I turned on airplane mode on one ipod, plugged it into the usb (while it was off), it started up and went right to a back up. I havent been able to back up for days now, and after following some other apple advice I had deleted all my backups for all devices. (wont do that again). Late now, but will try my other devices tomarrow and report back. THANKS DC, for me anyway, at least got one backup so I can try other stuff if I have to.

Hi sfrav - Glad I could help out! Again - I found this on another thread, so the credit goes there but I am happy you got the same results as I did!
Let's hope Apple figures this one out. Until then, at least we have a rather simple workaround.
Problem not totally solved though, as many (including me) were having trouble syncing over wi-fi, and turning on airplane mode excludes the ability to do that. but at least some of us can keep some backups so we are not afraid to try more experimenting ! Seems some things are working for some people, other things working for others, so the final fix Im sure will not be one single discovery, but will probably have to come as several fixes on to iTunes from Apple. Im sure they are aware of the problem, it would just be a little comforting to all their (so far) loyal customers if they they would come out and say "people we know there is a problem and we are working on it", and give us a little faith in the company.
OK, just got my iphone to sync and backup normally over USB, (Win7 64, Itunes 10.7, ios6) and the only thing I can think I did was I didn not start iTunes manually, but just plugged in the phone (it was already on) via USB, let it start iTunes, and the sync and backup started right up. A little like what I did with the ipod last night, but the ipod was in airplane mode, and the ipod was off when I plugged it in, iTunes was not open till plugging in the ipod started it. Also, both this morning and last night, I had just turned on the computer before each sync, and had not done anything else with it but plug in the phone or ipod. If this is a temporary work around, it is a very cumberson one, but at least somebody can backup till Apple fixes it. Still does nothing for the wi-fi backup problem, as the phone plugging has to activate iTunes.

The Airplane Mode fix worked for me last night. I was able to update both my iPhone 4S and iPad2 using that method. It's a pain, but it will work for now.
Apple seems to have really messed up WiFi in this version of iTunes and iOS. There are many problems being reported. I am also having problems with my songs. Some songs cut out before they are finished. There is just silence until the end, but then later, the same songs will play all the way through. I am having problems with the App Store. I'm getting notifications that there are apps to update, but when I go to the App Store, there is nothing. I was also one of the users who couldn't use Apple Software Update for over a month.
This has been a buggy release cycle. It has been made worse by the fact that I haven't seen any communication by Apple that they are fixing these problems or when they plan to release a patch.

I found the Airplane Mode thing interesting so I tried it. And it worked.
So now, here is my setup and a summary of what does and does not work for me. (And by the way, I didn't do any of the software uninstall/reinstall/batch programs or anything yet, so I'm not including those in what worked for me. But it was nice of you guys to figure those things out, too.)
I always have WiFi on. But I also always have my iPhone plugged into the USB port on my PC (32bit Windows 7 PC). None of the following require turning the iPhone on/off - it's ON for all of these scenarios. It also doesn't matter if iTunes is already running or if I'm plugging the iPhone in to start up iTunes.
1. While the iPhone is plugged into the PC and WiFi is also on, the WiFi sync works but the USB sync does not.
2. Same scenario but I disable Norton Firewall, the USB Sync works (and so does the WiFi Sync).
3. Same scenario, I leave the Firewall on, but I activate "Airplane Mode", the USB Sync works.
4. Same scenario, I leave the Firewall on, I turn off WiFi (Airplane Mode is OFF), the USB Sync works.
So what I figured out from numbers 3 and 4 is that it's not actually about Airplane Mode - it's simply about deactivating WiFi in one way or another. But then...
5. I unplug my iPhone from the USB port, and I plug it into a wall electrical outlet. WifFi is active. As soon as I plug the iPhone into the electrical outlet, the WiFi Sync starts and works perfectly.
So, in conclusion:
1. When the iPhone is plugged into the USB, WiFi syncing works but hard-wire USB syncing only works when either:
A. The Firewall is disabled, or
B. The WiFi is disabled
2. When the iPhone is plugged into an electrical outlet and WiFi is on, Wi-Fi synching works.
I would conclude that there is an interaction issue between WiFi and hard-wire USB...except that doesn't explain why disabling the Firewall fixes the problem.
OK, my brain hurts now. I think I'll go wash my hair and go out dancing or something that doesn't require circuitry.
Unfortunately, to add to our collective confusion, these aren't the steps that work for me. Plugging my iPhone or iPad into the A/C outlet never helped me. I've never had to plug them into the outlet to get them to sync before, despite what the instructions say. Disabling my Norton Firewall did help either. Syncing over WiFi or by USB cable worked only intermittently. Using Airplane Mode worked for me last night. Turning off WiFi might also work. I cannot get syncing over WiFi to work consistently no matter what I do.

Same here. I've tried all the suggestions and every now and then it works. I haven't been able to find a pattern. I'm trying to sync three devices. An iPhone 4s, an iPhone 3gs and a fourth generation iPod Touch. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. And sometimes one of them will work and the others won't work and then vice-versa. It is irritatingly random.
